Note that It hasn't yet reached Its peak, and there will be plenty more of It before spring. The Russians are prepared for this, both in the matter of clothing and of fighting equip ment. The Germans haven't even warm clothing to protect them. Not only are large num bers of nazi troops being frozen to death, but it Is said that trains are loaded with men be ing rushed back for hospital treatment of the terrible frost bite which produces the dread gangrene. Whatever may be the feeling at seeing an enemy freeze to death, we certainly can't dis avow a great ally like Mus covite winter which is having such a devastating effect on nazi forces. Not wishing to question the patriotism of Med ford business men, who have very thing to gain and nothing to lose, we wonder how many have thot about we rancher who are being asked for our homes. Since Pearl Harbor, no one begrudges a sacrifice, but why cannot we be shown some con sideratiou? Reuters (British news agency) today estimates that the nazis have lost 2,000,000 men killed, wounded, missing and captured in the Russian cam paign. This Is one-third the number of German losses esti mated by Pravda, communist party organ. Just over a month ago. Whatever the flgurp. actu ally may be, they undoubtedly are very terrible, and these men can't be immediately replaced, for they represent the cream of Hitler's armies. Meanwhile the Russians to day are reported to be squeez ing tighter to cut off the salient which the Germans have been holding desperately at Moz haisk, little southwest of Mos cow. If the Bolshevists succeed in closing this trap and anni hilating the enemy, they will have wiped out the last ot the strong positions which might be a grave threat against the cap ital in the spring. The writer believes that one of our readers expressed good working plan when he said that home men should be given first opportunity to work on the government project. We, all over Jackson county, are mak ing preparation to care for the influx of transients but giving little attention to making sure that the thousands of our own people are assured of work.
