Having Motion Picture Acad emy "Oscars" as proof of their artistry, co-stars Deanna Durbin and Charles Laughton of "It Started With Eve,'1 are said to Teach new heights as comedy stars in the film opening a three-day run today at the Cra terian theatre. Miss Durbin, winner of a spe cial Academy award in 1937, and Laughton, who captured an "Oscar" for his title role in "Henry VIII" in 1932 appear together for the first time In the new romantic comedy. In "It Started With Eve," Miss Durbin is seen as a hat- check girl who is introduced into a New York multi-million-r.ire's home as his son's fiancee. As the elderly industrialist, Laughton has essentially a com edy role, but it is also a charac terization said to be comparable in artistic fitness to his "Cap tain Bligh and other triumphs Robert Cummlngs appears op posite Miss Durbin. Veteran comedians Guy Kibbee and Wal ter Latiett, Doth essaying new - types of roles, add to the fun. Mr. Pieper said Mr. Stafford urged southern Oregon commu nities to send a large delega tion to the hearing, especially lawyers well equipped with pertinent data on the questions involved. He quoted Mr. Staf ford as declaring tnat the South ern Pacific was going to send its representatives to the meet ing armed to the teeth with allegations to support its argu ment that military necessity dictated the move depriving southern Oregon and northern California of passenger train and mail service. Southern Oregon communities were the first to lodge protest with the Interstate commerce commission and the state publie utilities commission and to seek a desist order from the federal body. Since then Yreka and Siskiyou county have taken up the fight and there has been some feeling here that the south ern Oregon communities have not tackled the matter with the Mime vigor and determination shown by the neighboring Cali fornia city and county. In replying to a telegraphic protest, the ICC said it had no jurisdiction in such cases of passenger train service. So tar as announced locally, however, the ICC has made no reply to the formal written protest that followed the telegraphic com plaint. The responsibility of filing the protest and petition was placed in the hands of Nlel R. Allen of Grants Pass.
