Christmas greenery, a large Christmas tree and other festive ornaments decorated the hall. Steve Whip ple's orchestra furnished music for the affair. During Intermission Miss Car ol Tengwald was presented her past queen's pin by Miss Beverly Brooks, new queen of the bethel. The ball honored Miss Tengwald who Just completed her term as presiding officer of bethel No. 14, Daughters of Job. Roger Wolf played a medley of Christ mas songs. Eagles Hold Yule Party Members of the Fraternal Or der of Eagles and their families enjoyed a Christmas program at the lodge hall Monday evening. Yule decorations were arranged about the hall. The program Included songs, recitations and musical numbers. Eve Prentice's Accordionettes played Christmas carols and Mrs. Elsie Alexander and her group of guitar students played several selections. Santa Claus passed out treats. The program closed with the children in the audi ence playing "Jingle Bells." Joint Installation Planned By Yodges Nevita chapter. No. 93, O.E.S.. will hold joint installation of of ficers with Lodge No. 133, A. F. and A. M. Saturday evening at the Masonic temple at Central Point. The Masonic installation begins at 7 o'clock with Eastern Star officers to be installed at 8 o'clock. The public is invited. Hensley Holt will be installed as worthy master of the blue lodge by H. T. Pankey and Mrs. Pearl Bonney will be incoming worthy matron of O. E. S., with Mrs. B. L. Sanderson as in stalling officer. Visitor Returns To Portland Miss Ruth Beasley returned to her home in Portland today after spending a few days in this city visiting her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Beas ley of West Sixth street. Miss Beasley teaches in the public schools of Oregon City. Last evening Mrs. Beasley in vited a group of friends to the Beasley home for an evening of bridge, honoring her houseguest. High score was held by Mrs. John Fitzgerald and Miss Beasley also received a gift. Guests Visit At Hunt Home Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bennett of Omaha, Neb., are guests at the home of Mrs. Bennett's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George A. Hunt, Wellington Heights. The Bennetts journeyed to Medford by train and plan to remain here through the Yule holidays. Spend Holiday At Bullis Horn Mr. and Mrs. Theodore B. Holmes of San Francisco are vis iting at the home of Mrs. Holmes father, Seth Bullis, IS Florence street. Mrs. Holmes is the for mer Josephine Bullis, and plans to remain here over the week- end, Mr. Holmes returning outh after Christmai day. Guests at Coleman Home Visiting at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Reuben Coleman, 1102 West Tenth street, are Mrs. Cole man's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Hutchins and her sister, Mrs. Roy West and children, Patricia and Billy West, all of Vallejo, Cal. The visitors plan to remain through the Christmas holidays. Miss McPherton Home From Portland Miss Jean McPherson, student nurse at University of Oregon Medical school and Multnomah hospital in Portland, is expected to arrive home tomorrow to spend a few days with her par ents, ilr. and Mrs. J. D. McPher son, 1211 West Main street. Visitors Here ' From California Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roberson and two children of Arbuckle. Cal., are visiting at the home of Mrs. Roberson's mother, Mrs. Luella J. Matlack, Ross lane. The visitors motored north and plan to visit during the Christmas holidays. Girl Scout Dane Is Postponed. An announcement was made today that the Senior Girl Scout dance which was scheduled for January 2 has been postponed. CALENDAR Thursday Christmas day. Grandfather Clara Escapes Dog House With Tribune's Aid Frank O. Clare of 134 South Ivy street today thanked the Mail Tribune for getting him out of the dog house. A little classified ad and a news item got results for him, he declared. Mr. Clare was given custody of "Inke", the pet dog belonging to his grandson Jackie Clare, while the boy spent the holidays in the north with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Royal J. Clare of 21 South Washington street. The dog got lost. An ad and news item appeared in the Mail Tri bune Monday. Yesterday after noon Mr. Clare found Inke at his son's house. Neighbors said a couple of boys found the dog and returned it to the Clare home. The elder Mr. Clare does not know who the boys were but he'd like to thank them. War Brings Overload Of Telephone Traffic Along Pacific Coast N. R. Powley, president, the Pacific Telephone and Tele graph company, commenting on the Pacific coast increased tele phone demands as a result of the war situation, stated today: "Never in its history has our company handled, in a similar period, the tremendous volume of telephone traffic which the extraordinary demands for tele phone service have placed on our system in the last 10 days. Funeral arrangements, 1 n charge of Congers, will be made upon arrival of relatives from California. SAFE IN HAWAII Clifford Mann of Shady Cove, sailor serving on a U. S. air craft carrier in the Pacific, has written his parents that he Is OK," Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Mann said today. Mr. and Mrs. Mann said they received an airmail letter from their son Saturday. The letter, written December 18, was mailed from Pearl Harbor and was censored in two places, Mr. and Mrs. Mann stated. Mervin Bosche, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bosche of Brea, Calif., former Shady Cove resi dents, is a shipmate of Clifford's on the aircraft carrier. No men tion was made of Mervin in the letter, Mr. and Mrs. Mann said. STRICT GUARD IS In keeping with the national policy, the Jackson County Council of Defense today advis ed the maintenance of strict watchfulness during the holiday period to avert any possible sab otage through fire or damage to plants and equipment. Saying that while there was little danger of sabotage here it would be better to prepare for every unfavorable possibility, the council suggested that watchfulness be Increased rath er than diminished during the Christmas and New Year's holi days.
