C, In coopera tion with national defense offi cials on the Pacific coast have been partially raised according to the local weather bureau this morning. Weather forecasts for a 26-hour period based on co nservations from 4:30 a. m. until .6:30 a. m. the following day . may now be issued, as may tern . peratures and precipitation for the preceding day. ; With word of this comes an nouncement that total rainfall for December to date is 7.02 inches and Is the best monthly rainfall of any on record. Prior to this the best monthly rainfall was In November 1926 when precipitation for the total month equalled 6.66 inches. Dec. 2 precipitation totaled 2.99 for a 24-hour period and Dec. 16 was the second heaviest rainfall re corded during the month for a 24-hour period when 2.17 Inches fell. You say "old as the hills" and "changeable as the weath er." Actually the hills are young in geologic age; the weather constant. Small quantities of tin are now being produced In Canada. Society an" Clubs by Betty Shoemaker Gerald Latham Heads Lively Rogues Club Gerald Latham was elected president of Lively Rogues Danc ing club at the K. of P. hall Wednesday evening when club members held a Yule dance. The hall was decorated In Christmas motif with greenery, berries, Christmas trees and other fes tive ornaments. Claude Holme will serve as vice-president and Mrs. George Jennings as secretary. The dance was given by outgoing officer and board members. Many guests attended and music for the occasion was furnished by Steve Whipple's orchestra. In charge of arrangements for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Merrick, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Latham, Mr. and Mrs. Maury Schlno, Mr. and Mrs. John McCabe, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Queen, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zacharison, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ogle and Mr. and Mrs. C. I. Hayes. Club Meets At Martin Home Beagle, Dec. 19 (Spl.) Pleas ant Hour club met Dec. 10 at the home of Thelma Martin with Mrs. Sanderson as hostess. Mrs. Haas passed out quilt blocks to be made for the baby quilt. A long letter was enjoyed by all from Mrs. Pearl Grunde land of Seattle. Christmas scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Ruth Foote. Luncheon was served by Mrs. Sanderson. "Santa's Drum" was then opened and each received an exchange present. Next meeting will be with Ruth Ellis. Christmas Program Planned by D. A. R. Mrs. M. M. Morris will be hostess to Crater Lake chapter, Daughters of American Revolu tion, at her home on Kings high way tomorrow at 2 p. m. A Christmas program and exchange of gifts have been planned. A musical program has been plan ned and the children of the pri mary association will present a play entitled, "Santa Takes a Nap." Santa Claus will bring treats and gifts for all. Lady Lions Hold Luncheon At Beck Home Lions Club auxiliary members presented a play written by Mrs. Eston Humphrey when they held their Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Michael Beck on the Old Stage road last week. Taking part in the play were Mrs. Arthur Render, Mrs. R. M. Schlno, Mrs. Ray Marti, Mrs. Earl Miller and Mrs. Humphrey. Mrs. Howard Bush, accom panied by Mrs. Mable Sims, sang "Tesu Vandino." After a covered dish luncheon and an ex change of gifts the members voted to do Red Cross work as a group. It was announced that Christmas toys were to be dis tributed from the Rogue River Chevrolet Sales rooms today and tomorrow. Attending were Mesdames Howard Bush, H. E. Conger, Bill Green, Henry Zacharison, George Goodman, Frank Cullen, Orville Hoselton, C. C. Haggard, Eston Humphrey, Leland Knox, Clay Konkel, Fred Lawrence, Ed Mann, Arthur Render, R. M. Schino, Earl Sims, Lyle Thur man, Wells, Claude Holmes, Nee ley, A. Boitanlo, a guest, Mrs. Mabel Sims, and the hostess, Mrs. Beck. Resident Leaves For South Dakota Miss Mary Chrlstensen of the Mail Tribune apartments left to day by train for her home In Rapid City, S. D., where she plans to spend Christmas vaca tion with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Christensen. She ex pects to be gone about three weeks. Miss Chrlstensen Is em ployed in the office of Dr. C. E. Kunz. E CHRISTMAS LULL The usual end of the year lull has come to the court house offices, and the past week there has been less business in all de partments than usual. Even legal filings In the clerk's office by lawyers have declined. There were no cases in Justice court yesterday, and the sheriffs of fice reported all quiet, save for a few autoists applying for their 1942 temporary licenses. In circuit court there Is also a minimum of business, with no cases scheduled until after New Year's, when It la anticipated, both the criminal and civil cal endar cases and matters will be Increased.
