gentleman rounded a corner. As
it passed, a kid standing by the
curb reached out and whammed
it loudly with his hand. The
old gentleman stopped his car,
hopped out with surprising agil

TAKEN BY DEATH
Mary Elenor Louise Hoyt, a
resident of Medford for the past
five years and widow of the late
Rev. John W. Hoyt, passed away
at a local hospital Wednesday at
9 40 p. m. after a short illness.
Mrs. Hoyt was born in West
chester, N. Y., and her marriage
to Mr. Hoyt took place Dec. 11,
1900.
She was an active member of
the First Presbyterian church
and of the Eveready Circle.
She is survived by one daugh
ter. Mrs. W. H. McClure, of Med
ford, and three grandchildren.
Charles Arthur Hoyt of Los
Angeles, Cal., and Bonlne and
Lassie McClure of Medford.
Funeral services will be con
ducted from the Perl Funeral
Home Saturday at 2 p. m.. Rev.
Sherman L. Divine, pastor of the
First Presbyterian church, will
officiate and will be assisted by
Rev. H. M. Roberts. .Concluding
services will be held at Mount.
View cemetery in Oakland, Cal.

Ted Smith went for six
months with a broken neck be
fore it was detected. The injury
occurred while he was scuffling
with a playmate but appeared
to be nothing more than a
bruise. Later more serious symp
toms developed and an X-ray
examination revealed a frac
tured vertebra.
