Lieut. Richard Rob erts, was safe in the Philippine islands. He is with the U. United Air Lines office at Med ford municipal airport reported that planes would probably be able to land later in the day. Back From Parley Capt. S. M. Tuttle, chairman of the Jack son County Council of Defense, Frank Hull, coordinator, Lloyd Williamson and Lee Bishop, committee members, returned by car last night from Salem where on Monday they attended a conference called by Gov. Charles A. Sprague. The gover nor called all county civilian de fense heads together to perfect the state's organization. Cam Collide Clinton Shol lenburg, 18, Route 2, Box 410-A, and Anna H. Donnelly, 37, 710 South Oakdale avenue, operated cars that collided at Bartlett and Sixth streets late yesterday afternoon, according to a report on file today. -H. L. Heyde, 27, 319 Jeanette street, and R. N. Finney, Jacksonville, drove cars that collided yesterday morning on West Main near Washington street, a report on file today showed. Heyde reported that he had stopped at a large puddle of water and was struck from the rear by Finney. Finney had not filed his report up to this fore noon. e Seeks Aid Mrs. Joe Brown of 319 Ashland avenue has lot of delicacies for the soldier boys at Fort Lewis at Christmas if some one could suggest a way of getting the good things to eat to the soldiers without transpor tation costs, the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce said to day. Mrs. Brown suggested that perhaps some one with room to spare would soon be driving to Fort Lewis and wouldn't mind taking the things, the chamber said, adding that she also thought that others might like to add to the box of goodies. Mrs. Brown may be reached by telephoning 4456. Minor Mishaps Cars operat ed by Harry Lawrence, 18, of 1422 Euclid avenue, and Ralph A. Mann, 32, Route 1, Box 133. collided this morning on West Main street near Fir street, It was shown by a report on file. Mann had stopped to let a car ahead make a turn and Law rence ran into him in the rear, the report said. Glenn O. Lour gaard, 29, Friant, Cal., and Jack Ray, 709 Court street, operated cars that collided late yesterday afternoon at Main street and Central avenue, it was shown in a report on file today. Lour gaard in his report said he had stopped for a red light and Ray ran into him from the rear. Ray had not filed his version of the mishap up to this forenoon. Still Out Telephone service between the Rogue River na tional forest office and Butte Falls and Butte Falls and Union Creek was still out of commis sion today, according to the local forest office, and no infor mation concerning snow fall could be received. Car Tips Over A taxicab operated, by Burton A. Ladner, 21, 44S South Front street, hit a pole and turned over after colliding with a car operated by Irwin Wagner, 25, Route 1, Box 336, yesterday noon at West Main street and Columbus ave nue, it was shown in a report on file today. Wagner's car also struck a pole after the collision. Wagner was travelling west on Main, Ladner south on Colum bus. The police report quoted Ladner as saying the accelerator of his taxicab had stuck and he was unable to stop upon enter ing Main street. GET ACQUAINTED Twelve apprentices and voca tional students were interviewed by members of the Medford ap prenticeship commission at a get-acquainted meeting Monday night at the senior high school. Apprentice indentures in car pentry were approved for Maur ice Wickman and Bill Barnes. Walter W. Morse, Salem, assis tant state supervisor of trade end industrial education, was a guest speaker. Other guests were Mrs. Frankie Schmitz, Salem, supervisor of distributive educa tion, and Leonard B. Mayfield, high school principal. Commission members present were Stanley Jones, chairman. William Hammett, Harvey Field, E. H. Thomas, Maynard Bush and L. A. Mentzer, secretary.
