Forbes, 60 Quince street, reported to city police that two fog lights and a radio aerial were stolen from his car when it was parked In the street. C. E. Naff. 125V North Holly street, reported that a fog lights was stolen from his car. Driver Fined Edward L. Hart. 25, 912 South Oakdale avenue, tbs fined $10 by Judge W. W. Allen in city court this morning for violating the basic traffic rule. He pleaded guilty to driv ing at 40 miles an hour on West 11th street this morning when the street was covered with slush. e e o Collision A car operated by Lydla Anna Scott of Trail and a school bus collided while both were rounding a curve in the same direction on the highway southwest of Cascade Gorge last Thursday afternoon. It was shown in a report on file here today. The bus and Its driver were not identified in the re port. 111 At Home Miss Ruth Nord wick was today reported to be 111 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Nordwlck, 019 Reddy avenue. She re turned yesterday from Oregon State college, where she is a student, and will remain here through Christmas vacation. She will return to Corvallis in Jan uary. Confer W. M. Bartlett, field representative of the Portland office of the public work re serve, federal works agency, conferred today with Fred W. Scheffel, city superintendent, regarding planning of projects to be activated at the end of the war to avert a slump in employment. Mr. Bartlett ar rived this morning by car from Grants Pass, where he con ferred yesterday, and was to leave this afternoon for Ashland and Klamath Falls. Chaff Fire The fire depart ment s chemical crew last night put out a fire of barley chaff between the Monarch Seed & Fed company warehouse and the Iieter Fruit company on South Fir street. The feed company bums the chaff in the area by its warehouse and about 8:12 last night the wind started blowing sparks around and the firemen were called to put the blaze out as a precautionary measure, Chief Roy Elliott re ported. There was no damage. Minor Mishaps Mrs. Ethel Corey, 39. Stewart avenue and Peach street, and John South well, 40, 244 South Central ave nue, operated cars that collided with minor damage late yester day afternoon at South Central avenue and Eighth street, a report on file today showed. Jess Spicer, 38, Prospect, and Mrs. Sadie Frink, Sams Valley, operated cars that collided as they were going In opposite directions on the Sams Valley road 12 miles north of Sams Valley late Sunday afternoon, according to a report on file today. see To School Jack Drager, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vera L. Drager of 521 Dakota avenue, has been selected to enter school at Los Angeles January 2 for further training In navy radio, word was received here today. Drager enlisted in the navy November 7 and was chosen for aviation ra dio training at San Diego, Cal He passed several examinations before being selected for ad vanced training at Los Angeles. Before enlisting, Drager attend ed Oregon State college for two years. He has written home tnat he will not have a Christ mas furlough because of the war. Second Place John Sauls- berry, student at Oregon State college, son of Mrs. Lulu Sauls berry of Jacksonville, won second place in the finals of the 84th annual Intersectional speech contest at the college last week, it was announced today. The contests, held once each term, are sponsored by Delta Sigma Rho, honor society in forenslcs. Saulsberry'g humor ous selection was "Seeing Stars" in which he picked the "all American football team of 1941 to end all all-American teams." His selection included such players as "Lock of Yale," "Cash of Vanderbilt," "Pill of Carter" and "Warden of Penn." Saulsberry Is a sophomore in education. New Plates The sheriffs of fice sold 200 auto licenses yes terday, first day of sale. It was also the first day autoists were permitted to place the 1942 plates on cars and several new plates appeared on the streets. Safe Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jones of Central Point have received word from their son Kenneth who is stationed at the Kaneshe bay TJ. S. naval air station. Kenneth sent word that he was safe, Mr. Jones informed the Mail Tribune today. To Luncheon T h o m a s C. Parker, assistant superintendent of Crater Lake national park, George T. Hopper, resident en gineer, and Dr. George C. Ruhle, naturalist, left today by motor to attend a luncheon in Klamath Falls of the Federal Business men's association. Mr. Parker Is secretary of the association. Leave For South Mr. and Mrs. Lester H. Anderson left today by motor for San Fran Cisco where they will reside for the next three months. Lieutenant Hammond On Navy Yard Guard Word reached here today that Lieutenant Bruce B. Hammond, 22, who is attending the Basic School of the marines at the Philadelphia navy yard has been placed In charge of a de tail of marines armed with a machine gun and 10.000 rounds of ammunition to help guard the navy yard against any pos sible sabotage or fifth column activity. Hammond received the assignment owing to his profic iency with the machine gun at the marine target range at In dlantown Gap, Penn. The Bowser Equipment com pany is authorized agent for the Allis-Chalmers company, and allied manufacturers, in Jack son and Josephine counties in Oregon and Siskiyou and Del Norte counties In California. The companies make road ma chinery, logging equipment, farm and orchard tractors and Implements and other motorized Industrial machines. Bowser, who took over the Allis-Chalmers agency Jan uary 15, 1941, is freeing him self from the burden of man agement so as to look after his other substantial personal in terests. STORM OF 1919 Medford awoke to a white city today and flurries of snow continued into the afternoon. A mid-morning rain washed away part of the snow and by 1:30 o'clock snow and rain fell inter mittently. Old-timers recalled the snow of 1919 when 11 Inches fell Dec. 11. Feb. 12 and Feb. 17 of Ust year saw small flurries of snow and April 16 of this year mow fell but melted almost as soon as touching trie ground. Dec. 80, 1940, a trace of snow fell, weather bureau reports showed. Snow was falling early this morning at Butte Falls, Rogue River national forest office said. C: The central office in Wash ington has ordered all weather bureau airport stations closed to all visitors except local aero nautical interests, identified pri vate pilots and government of ficials showing credentials, with the exception that where all lo cal weather bureau activities are at the airport that portion of the office containing chron ological records may be made accessible to visitors. A MUSTERED IN AT Company A of the new Ore gon state guard will be formally mustered Into service at the Medford armory at 8 tonight. A headquarters detachment will be organized. Col. Ralph P. Cowglll, execu tive officer of the state guard, and Maj. Carl Y. Tengwald, bat talion commander, will muster Company A into service. The company of 60 men and three officers will be commanded by Capt. James W. Grigsby. - Col. Cowglll and Maj. Teng wald will leave tomorrow to muster in a company at Klamath Falls. Maj. Tengwald, former commander of Company A of the national guard here, is command ing officer of the state guard units in Medford, Marshfield and Klamath Falls. Holmes agency said today he had been notified that under govern ment instructions no new or re newal insurance may be Issued to cover nationals of countries at war with the United States.
