Snow At Lake Almost 13 Inches of snow covered the ground at headquarters building in Crater Lake national park this morning, it was reported by short-wave radio. The nnw. dery snow had been blown into drifts and motorists were ad vised to use tire chains. Maxi mum temperature yesterday was 27 degrees, lowest in the night 20. The sky was cloudy this morning. After a record rain fall, snow started falling yester day and deposited 12 inches dur ing the day. Almost another inch was added last night. In the 24 hours ended at 4:30 p. m. About 73 collectors' letters have accumulated at Medford postoffice for the first commer cial airmail flight to Portland but unless special authority is received to send airmail from here to the state capital some other disposition will have to be made of them. United Air Lines will inaug urate plane service to Salem to morrow but thus far no author ity has been received by Med ford postoffice to make up an airmal pouch for Salem, Hugo Guenther, mall superintendent, said. Authority to dispatch emergency pouches, however, has been requested of the reg ional superintendent at San Francisco and it was thought that such authority would be granted. Under such authority a pouch of airmail may be made up for Salem whenever olume warrants, Mr. Guenter said. Saturday Deadline The Medford postoffice has until Saturday to receive au thority to get the collectors' airmail out, for although plane service to Salem begins tomor row, the northbound mail plane will not start making calls at the state capital until Saturday. This plane, which arrives here early in the morning, starts .its northbound trip at San Diego and since the one arriving here tomorrow morning will have begun its flight tonight it will not be affected by the new schedules until Saturday, Max C. Henne, company manager, explained. The first mail-passenger-ex-press plane to call at Salem to morrow will be the late night southbound Mainliner. Coming from Seattle and Portland, it will leave Salem at 10:35 p. try and arrive here at 11:47 p. m. and depart at 11:52. The early morning northbound plane, which will start calling at Sa lem Saturday, will arrive here from San Diego and way points at 4:54 and leave for Salem at 4:59. It is scheduled to arrive at Salem at 6:11 and Portland at 6:41 a. m. The northbound f 1 a g s t o p Mainliner leaving Medford at 4:03 p. m., will stop on signal at Salem beginning tomorrow, being scheduled to arrive there at 5:15. The southbound plane that now flies over here In mid- afternoon will stop at both Sa lem and Medford on signal. It will arrive at Salem at 1:05 p. m. It will arrive here at 2:22 and depart at 2:27.
