Edington, about SO, Med ford resident, wa killed Wed nesday while working In the Ingham Lumber company's log ging woods near Glendale, southern Douglas county, Coro ner H. C. Stearns reported to day. The accident was not wit nessed, the coroner stated. Edington's body was found late Wednesday evening, pinned under a log which apparently had rolled from a stock pile. Edington, who had been em ployed by Ingham company for about three months is survived by his widow, living at Medford. T. B. Edington was a long time resident of Jackson county, having resided on his ranch in the Sams Valley district for many years prior to going to Glendale to work. Conger's funeral parlor is In charge of final rites, which were .being arranged today. Burial will be in Central Point ceme tery, in the family plot, and time of the funeral will be announced tomorrow. H. W. Conger plans to bring the remains back to Medford early tomorrow morn ing. A complete obituary will be published Friday. Boy Baby Starved; Parents Arrested Woodland, Calif., Dec. 4. W) Three-month-old Larry Harrick died of starvation, the death certificate reported, and his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Har rick, formerly of Merrill, Ore., were taken into custody yes terday. They denied their son had been starved. The death cer tificate report was based on autopsy findings of Dr. James Porter, county physician. There are 27.000 factories In Australia. Bean said today he had no comment on the statement made yesterday by State Treasurer Leslie M. Scott that Bean and T. O. Russell, Bean's chief en gineer, should be made to re alize they are working for the state instead of for the Portland General Electric company. Scott added that Bean and Russell recommended approval of a five-year contract for the company to sell power for state buildings and institutions, Scott asserting "they said the contract is all right but I know It is all wrong." Dr. Erb paid tribute to the state board of higher education in handling the recent board meeting at Ashland when sci ence was added to the university curriculum as a major depart ment.' He said that this problem had been facing the board since 1935 and the action of the board overcame a shortcoming in the university educational field. It Is hoped that the university will be able to supplement the science budgetary funds with outside sources In order to build up a strong science department. However, Dr. Erb stated that under no circumstances would financial aid be taken from other departments or other state schools in order to benefit the science department. In several instances Oregon alumni have already offered their services financially and a science depart ment fund has been opened to receive such monetary assist ance as may be offered by friends of the university. Core were the oldest Oregon students in attendance having been students at the university from 1889 to 1891. Youngest was Miss Catherine Conroy, 1942. Dr. E. R. Durno acted as toastmaster and presented Dr. Erb with a box of Rogue valley Cornice pears. Also present were Elmer Fansett. Oregon alumni director and Harry Schenk, executive secretary for the Oregon. State Newspaper Publishers association.
