Hall Medford Sojourners and in vited guests enjoyed barn dance at K. of P. hall Saturday evening. The hall was decorated in rural motif with old lan terns, hay, a stable and garden implements arranged about the room. Those attending were cos tumed with first prize for the women being awarded to Mrs. Eugene Card and Frank Humph rey winning first prize for the Stave Whipple's orchestra, clad In overalls, furnished music foi the occasion. Motor Hare From Klamath Falls Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Walker, 1120 Red dy avenue over the weekend and on Thanksgiving day were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schaff of Klamath Falls. The Schaffs motored to Medford for Thanksgiving din ner, returning to Klamath Falls and spent the weekend here also. W Mrs. Schaff is the former Elsie Turner who was employed as a nurse at Sacred Heart hospital prior to her marriage early this fall. Auxiliary Birthday Celebration Planned Final plans have been com pleted for the Eagles auxiliary birthday celebration to be held Tuesday at 7 p. m. at the Eaglesl hall. Auxiliary members having birthdays during September, October and November will be honored. Others are asked to bring a covered dish. In charge are Leona White, Isabelle Tucker and Verda Edsall. Pythian Club Meets Tonight Pythian Club will meet with Mrs. W. L. Three Couples Wed in Reno Three Jackson county couples were licensed to wed in Reno, Nev., Saturday according to As sociated Press wire reports. They were Bob Walker of Medford and Harriet Briscoe of Phoenix, Clinton Forrester and Elma Croucher and Leonard Atkins and Betty Huklll, all of Medford. Navy Mothers Club Enjoys Meeting Navy Mothers met Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Anna Mears with 14 mothers and two guests attending. Refresh ments were served by the hostess at the close of the meeting. (Pi The first battalion of an infantry regiment exclusively for moun tain warfare Indicating the wide scope of the army's defense preparations has been formed he'e around some of the world's finest skiers and most expert mountain climbers. It is the first of its kind in American history and is pat terned along the lines of regi ments and even whole divisions of mountain troops which Ger many used in Norwegian and Balkan campaigns. The first battalion, composed of mountain experts from the 9th army corps and hand-picked men from the 4th army on the west coast, will serve as a nuc leus for expansion of the regi ment, which will be known as the 87th infantry mountain regi ment. The first battalion is an ex perimental force to test organi zation and equipment to meet the unusual, rigorous require ments of military operations in mountain terrain. Only men who possess special physical qualifications will be accepted. For several years the army has had ski patrols, one of the most famed being in the 15th "Can Do" regiment at Fort Lewis. The value of mountain fight ing units was proved by the Germans in the battles for passes in the Balkan campaign, officers said. Knight "The Christian's Attitude Toward War" will be the subject of Evangelist Leland H. Knight's speech at the gospel meeting in the Church of Christ tonight. The public is invited to listen to the speech and enjoy the sing ing. Tuesday night, the evangelist will speak on "The Ethiopian Nobleman Becomes a Christian" and Wednesday night on 'The Ephesians Are Baptized Again." Evangelist Knight's home is in Booneville, Ark. He holds gos pel meetings In 13 states and prior to coming here he preach ed at Eureka, Cal., and Eugene. The meetings will last through Sunday night. Divine, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, and Mrs. Divine returned home last night from Seattle, Wash., where they spent the Thanks giving holiday with their sons, Eugene and John, On the way home they stop ped in Portland where Saturday night Dr. Divine received his credentials at a Masonic banquet and ceremonial for the honor bestowed upon him and 11 other Masons of Oregon recently by the supreme council, A. and A. S. R., at Washington, D. C. The credentials were evidence of the elevation of Dr. Divine to Knight Commander of the Court of Honor by the Scottish Rite. A.A.U.W.. home Mrs. Rob ert Shepherd, Saginaw Drive, Word was received here today of the death of Peter Ensele, 90, last Wednesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Annie McElroy of Mount Shasta, Cal. Funeral services were held Saturday in Mount Shasta. Mr. Ensele was once a resi dent of Jacksonville and had many friends in the Rogue River valley. A daughter, Mrs. Louise Minear, resides in Ash land. Mr. Ensele, bom in Baden, Germany, In 1851, came to this country in 1883 and was natur alized shortly afterward. He settled in Siskiyou county, Cal., in 1917. Ten of 14 children survive Besides Mrs. McElroy and Mrs. Minear, they are William Ensele and Mrs. Nora Morgan of Gre nada, Cal., John A. Ensele of Yreka, Calif., Edgar E. Ensele, Lillian Ensele and Mrs. Fiances Stott of Sacramento, Cal, Mrs Emma Margriter of Mount Shas ta and Mrs. Elsie Gasper of Yuba City, Cal.
