Bon Born Mrs. Emma Merri man of 513 North Bartlett street was today in receipt of news of the birth of a son to her grand son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Merriman of Hailsbuig, Cal. The baby, named Larry Lee, is Mr. and Mrs. Guy Mer- rtman's third son and Mrs Emma Merriman's third great- grandson. To Leave Mrs. Frank Ovel man of the Jacksonville high way plans to return to Wheeler tomorrow morning after spend ing the past three weeks at her home. Mrs. Ovelman is receiv ing medical treatment at Wheel - er and expects to remain there for the coming two weeks. Mr. Ovelman will drive his wife north and will return after the Thanksgiving holiday. New Cruiser The O 4 C ad ministration district office here today announced, the appoint ment of John A. Carnegie as associate cruiser in the Med ford district to replace Francis Jacquemin who was transferred to the Eugene district. Mr. and Mrs. Carnegie, who arrived here Saturday, have taken up resi dence at 525 South Central ave- I nue. Mr. Carnegie, an Oregon State college man, began his new employment yesterday. The mercury stood at 2 degrees at the time of the broadcast, 8:45 a. m. On Furlough James W. Bean, son of Mrs. Arthur Boyer of Hilt, Calif., is home on a 10-day furlough from the U. S. army. Knight of Bonne ville, Ark., today announced that the series of revival meetings scheduled for the Church of ! Christ on North Court street will be started at 7:30 tomorrow night. Meetings will be held each evening at the same hour and will continue through No vember 30. Mr. Knight was to have opened the series Sunday night but was detained in Eu gene because of the Willamette valley flood and did not arrive here until yesterday. Firemen Called The fire de partment's chemical crew was called at 8:45 last night to the residence of R. W. BJorkquist. 143 South Oakdale avenue, when an oil burner became overheated. The firemen took care of the burner. Five min utes later another crew was sent to the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Prentice, 517 Newtown street, when a chimney fire developed. The firemen stood by while the soot In the chimney burned itself out. Still fearful that the house might catch fire, Mrs. Prentice called the firemen again at 11:41 p. m. but she was assured, after another inspection was made, that everything was all right, the firemen reported. There was no damage at either place. Plane Passengers Arriving by United Mainliner this noon were J. Brown and Dr. N. Hale, from Sacramento, Cal., and William McClure, from San Francisco. Leaving were J. Carter, Dr. M. Nerseth and Lester Nerseth, to Portland, and E. Richards, to Seattle. Arriving this forenoon from Portland were W. Beatton and W. Geahri. C. H. Jonas left ! last midnight for Oakland, Cal. W. Hannum arrived from Port land last night, heaving was h. Irving, to Los Angeles. Arriv ing last evening were R. Desch, from Seattle, and F. Sommers, from Portland. M. Riley arrived from San Franojsco last evening. Arriving from Portland yester day on a special flagstop were J. Carter and Vic Vettel. The early morning plane today was delayed in San Francisco be cause of fog In the north. RECORD LOG DRIVE Myrtle Point, Ore., Nov. 18.- W) Boom men expected to wind up the biggest log drive in Coos county history today. More than 60.000,000 board feet of logs, valued at $600,000, were floated down the roaring Co- quille river to the Smith Wood Product company at Coquille. American farmers employ more than a million and a half tractors, according to the de partment of commerce. A short time ago the board of directors of the Jackson Coun ty Chamber of Commerce adopt ed a resolution suggesting to the county court that the county s contribution of $500 annually to the wonderland association be omitted this year and resump tion of the contribution be con-! sidered again at the end of a year, while no authorized state ment was made as to the reason for this suggestion. It was re ported that the chamber of com merce had some plan In mind for expenditure of the fund within Jackson county. SAINT MARK'S PLANNING THANKSGIVING SERVICE Thanksgiving Day will be celebrated by Saint Mark's church at a special service on Thursday at 10:30 o'clock In the church. The altar and sanctuary have been decorated with the fruits of the soil. Junior and senior vested choirs will lead the music of the service. Special hymns and anthem have been prepared.
