(JF) Mindful of years past when the Bulldogs from little Gonzaga university have spoiled what might otherwise have been a successful football season, the Washington State college Cou gars plugged today against Gon zaga formations in preparation for Saturday's game against the Bulldogs in Spokane. Before yesterday's workout Coach Babe Hollingbery gave his "giant killers" a skull ses sion which included a restudy of the W.S.C.-Gonzaga game last year and an outline of the Conzaga formations this season. All of the Washington State players, with the exception of Stan Depke, guard, camu through the Stanford game without Injury. Used extensively in practice workout against Oregon plays and apparently favored to start Griffin Creek Secretarial Science Course Is Authorized For Ashland Normal Southern Oregon College of Education, Ashland, Nov. 18 (Spl.) The Oregon state board of higher education at its Octo ber meeting in Ashland, author ized the Southern Oregon Col lege of Education to Inaugurate a two-year secretarial science course to begin the winter quar ter this year. Since 1932 there has been an ever wider range of Junior col lege subjects offered at the Southern Oregon College of Ed ucation to the youth of southern Oregon. All during this time college authorities have been endeavoring to provide greater service through a wider range of subjects In the lower division of liberal arts and sciences. The granting of secretarial science fulfills a long-felt need on the part of educators and students alike for a two-year terminal course in the field of general business training. Enrollment in this new secre tarial science course is expected to be extremely heavy this year owing to the heavy demand for trained stenographers and bookkeepers. (JP A I Bend divorcee who sued after her ex-husband's death to have ! the divorce decree set aside so she could claim his 110,000 es tate lost in state supreme court today when the court reversed the late Circuit Judge T. E. J. Duffy, who had ordered the de cree set aside. Jack Cook sued his wife. Maria Jane Cook, for divorce in 1924 and was granted the decree. A year later he remar ried, but again was divorced. He died in Bend In 1939 with out heirs. The first wife, contending she had not been notified that she had been divorced, brought suit after Cook died to have the de cree held invalid. Judge Duffy held in her favor, effect of his decision being to make her Cook's widow and heir to the estate. Under today's decision In which the court said that Mrs. Cook knew she had been di vorced, the money goes into the school fund. TO ENTERTAIN TROOPS Salem, Nov. 18. (") Salem residents were asked today to entertain 150 Ohio soldiers, sta tioned at Fort Stevens, over the Thanksgiving holidays. Gault of 430 South Fir street today began employ ment under U. S. civil service appointment as engine man at tha Medford federal building. He will be in charge of the cus todial staff and will be under the direct supervision of the postmaster. Mr. Gault, native of Jack sonville, has been custodian at the Hotel Jackson. (JFh Germany and Mexico were at odds diplomatically today over the execution of hostages In axis-occupied lands, Mexico City refusing a Berlin request for withdrawal of a formal protest. The foreign office disclosed the Mexican position last night, saying Berlin warned that "nothing but a disagreeable an swer" could be expected. The chamber of deputies was stirred. "In view of Hitler's Insolent reply," declared one deputy. Cesar Garizurieta, "there Is only one signified course: expel the representatives of Hitler s gov ernment In Mexico." Y., Nov. 18 (VP) Six elderly patients three men and three women lost their lives early today In fire which destroyed building of private sanitarium here. Thirty other persons, most of them bed ridden, were rescued. Dr. Gonvas L. Born In Contra Costa County. Cal., Sept. 23, 18S4, he was brought to Oregon with his par-1 ents two years later. In Salem, Bishop was active In organizing the Kay woolen mill firm and he established the Bishop Men's store in 1891. He to 1904.
