PAGE FTVH Society and Clubs by Betty Shoemaker Past Noble Grand Club Electa New Officers Viola Aldredge was elected president of the Past Noble Grand club at the meeting held last week at the Girls Commu nity clubhouse. Ethel Pease will erve as vice president and Ethyl Weed as secretary-treasurer. Plans were made for the an nual Christmas party to be held December 11 at the I. O. O. F. hall at 6 30 p. m. Committee in i-harge of the dinner includes Marjorie Pearson, chairman; Nellie Gibson, Sara Redden, Dorothy Scripter, Mary Cave, Carrie McDannel and Irene Snlrley. Sister Olive gifts were exchanged and members were reminded to Dring gifts for the Odd Fellows home in Portland. Later refreshments were served by Ella Parks, Marie Hansen and Helen Keesee. Party Honors Wendell Sipes On Birthday Mrs. W. R. Sipes entertained recently with a surprise birth day party honoring Wendell Sipes at the Sipes home. Chinese Checkers and 500 were at play with high scores being awarded to Henry Slover, Bernard Gunn, Betty Rich, and Mrs. Josephine Green, consolation to Bob Deck er and Miss Blanche Eckles. A patriotic motif was carried out In the decorations with mini ature flags being used as place cards. Assisting the hostess with the serving were Mrs. Clyde Bentley, Miss Blanche Eckles and Mrs. Thelma Willarding. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Slover, Bob Decker of Cozad, Neb., Mrs. Naomi Jones. Pro America Begins Cookie Project For Oregon Camps In line with the newly an nounced state project local Pro America unit is this week for the first time providing cookies for men in Oregon military camps. The goal is to provide at least a dozen cookies for each man once month and the idea has been enthusiastically re ceived by all members. Cookies from the Medford area will be sent Tuesday night for distribution before Thanks giving day. Those providing cookies are asked to take them Tuesday to 214 East Main street, the location of the old Johnson Shoe store, between 10 a. m. and 2 p. m. Committee In charge of ar rangements for the Medford Pro America unit includes Mrs. Neil Collins, chairman; Mrs. C. L. Hopkins. Mrs. C. W. Shores, Mrs. D. H. Findley and Mrs. Murray Gardner. St. Mark's Plans Dinner, Bazaar On the calendar of events for St. Mark's Episcopal church is the annual bazaar, .to be held Thursday, November 27, at the parish house, and a dinner to be given the evening of De cember 7. Mrs. John Mann, chairman of the bazaar, states that the affair will have a "kitchen" theme this year. Articles useful in the kitchen will be on sale, a food sale will be held and waffles will be served during the day. A large committee of women from the service league of the church is assisting Mrs. Mann. The dinner is to be in charge of Mrs. Ralph Burgess and Mrs. H. L. Van Dermark. The affair will be open to the public, with dinner served from 5 until 8 p m. A special guest will be the Right Rev. Benjamin D. Dag well, Portland, bishop of the diocese of Oregon. The bishop will conduct an 8 o'clock service for the congregation of St. Mark's church. Last week a social event of the church was a benefit card party sponsored by a commit tee of the Women's Service league. The party was held at the parish house and prizes were awarded to Mrs. Roland Smith, Mrs. Van Gilbert, Karl L. Janouch, H. B. Murphy and Frank Humphrey. Mr. H. B. Murphy was chairman of the committee. P.-T. A. Activities Oak Grsva Oak Grove P.-T. A. will hold a chicken and noodle dinner today from 1 until 4 p. m. to raise funds for hot lunches dur ing the winter months. The dinner will be held at the schoolhouse. Woodmen Hold Social Evening Members or the Woodmen of the World enjoyed a turkey dinner, and a social hour, No vember 14, at the Knights of Pythias hall on North Grape street. Statu mmervisor Jerry Saylor was the guest speaker of the evening. Interesting talks were also given by District Manager Owen Walker, Frank DeSouza and other members of the organization. Washington An executive meeting o f Washington school P.-T.A. was held at the home of the presi dent, Mrs. H. O. Colburn, 704 West Tenth street Friday. Three Local Boys Pledge Among Medford students at University of Oregon who have pledged fraternities during the past week are: Clyde Hollen beck, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Rollenbeck, to Sigma Nu; Harold Fawcett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold F. Fawcett and Bill Reed, son of Mrs. Lola B. Reed, to Phi Sigma Kappa. Church Circle Plans Bazaar Ladies of Fidelity Circle of the First Methodist church met with Mrs. Mabel Herron, 153 North Oakdale avenue, last week and worked on articles for the bazaar which Is to be held at the church December 5. Covered dish luncheon was served at noon. Among visitors attending were Mrs. L. C. Kirby and small son. Following the dinner a business meeting was held with Mrs. Anna Fanger presiding. The group Joined in singing "Amer ica." Mrs. Lucy Lyman led devotions. Sewing was resumed at the close of the business session. Members are requested to bring articles for the bazaar to "homecoming." Jobs' Daughters Hold Initiation Four candidates were initiated into Daughters of Job Wednes day evening at the regular bethel session with Honored Queen Carol Tengwald presid ing during the evening. Initiat ed were Miss Peggy Young, Miss JoAnne Adler, Miss Mar garet Drysdale and Miss Jackie Wilson. An announcement was made that officers for the coming term will be elected at the next meeting. A large number of mem bers and guests were present. After the business session a program of garden problems was presented by the program chairman. Mts. Leland Mentzer. Discussions concerning new plants and shrubs for the gar den, fertilizers, cleaning up the flower beds for the winter and how to layer shrubs for new plants were led by members of the club, and were very Inter esting and Instructive. Mrs. L. G. Genter, president. Is very enthusiastic over the plants and shrubs being pre pared for the early spring plant sale. An attractive exhibit of fall berries and foliage was arranged by various members. Tea and cakes were served by the hostess from a table ar ranged with a fall centerpiece.
