Boyd, well known In Medford when he wai with the Pacific Tel.-phone and Tele graph company here from 1022 to 1928, wai appointed general penonnel upervior and secre tary of the Employee!1 Benefit Committee of the Oregon area, effective November 1, according to word received by R H. Ham mond, telephone manager here. Boyd succeeds James Redman, recently named assistant to the general manager for the Oregon area. With the Bell system for 26 years. Boyd was a technical man In Medford from August, 1922. to September, 1928. He began his telephone career in the em ploy of the Northwestern Bell Telephone company In Duluth. Minn., in 1916. at the age of 13, as stock clerk. Six years later he was transferred to Medford, to remain until 1928 when he was transferred to Eugene as senior central office repairman; In July, 1929, he went to Port land as chief toll test-board- man. Early in 1933 he was transferred to The Dalles as wire chief, In 1936 was named wire chief at Astoria, and in 1938 was transferred to Klam ath Falls as wire chief, a posi tion he held until July of this year. At that time he was named staff assistant in the adminis tration department in Portland. Washington, Nov. 7, The navy has announced pro motion of 463 lieutenants to the rank of lieutenant com mander. The list included: Fred erick F. Agens, Medford. Lieut.-Com. Agens Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick T. Agens of 232 Valley View Drive and a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Kldd of 1820 Crown Hill road. Lieut.-Com. Agena visited his parents and his uncle and aunt here for a few days last month upon his return from Asiatic duty. For three years ha had served on the Black Hawk, a destroyer then on duty in Chi nese waters as flagship of the Asiatic fleet. After his visit here Lleut-Com. Agens left for the Atlantic coast where he will be on duty for the. next two years, lie is a graduate of the Annapo lis Naval Academy. TO Ashland. Nov. 7. SpI. The price of milk in Ashland will rise one cent per quart, effective Monday, Nov. 10, a representa tive of the dairymen announced Thursday. The rise was agreed upon at a meeting of the Ashland Dairy men's association Monday eve ning. Previously, E. B Poycr had represented the milkmen at a meeting with Oregon milk control board officials in Med ford, to voice the local request for a rise in price. Cost of supnllrs, feed, etc., was listed as need for the in crease In price, which will be extended on (11 quantities of a quart or more. No change Is anticipated In the price of pints on which the present price Is seven cents. Special Occasion Next Sunday For Methodist Church Next Sunday will be a special occasion for Methodists of Med ford. Participating in a stale wide Methodist movement of home visitation the local church has been busy for the past two weeks calling on the Methodist constituency to renew their loy alty to the church. This has resulted In many of the new people of Medford uniting with the church, according to the pastor. Rev. Louis C. Klrby. who reports there will be about S3 persons who have decided to establish their membership In the church at the 11 o'clock worship hour.
