' political center. Under ex
isting conditions, it is th na
tion's business center.
People come here from all
over America for political pur
poses. They come here from
everywhere now for business
purposes.
These things being true, it Is
Inevitable that in Washington
business and politics should mix.

this point an opinion that will
doubtless be hooted a

center of the nation's political

citizen believes.

ness transaction, running Into

heavy commitments, could be
carried through from beginning

defense or to appear before one

of business, large and small,
throughout tha United States.
Some of them know their
way around. Most of them do
not haven't, in fact, when they
arrive, the faintest idea what
to do next or wher to go to
get it don.
For these latter, th profes

fesses to know Just the right
people and to be able to mrke

conviction, based upon
scanty couple of weeks of ob
servation, that it is NEVER
necessary for any honest citizen
with a reasonably legitimate
proposition to deal with any of
these agencies.
A much better way is for him
to go directly to his senstors or
to his congressmen, explsin hts
proposition, ssk whom he ought
to see and then ask his repre-
sentatlva In th congress to
secure for him the necessary
appointments.

followed In the past.
But with few exceptions they
sincere men. They are will-
ing to listen to the citizen's
problems. Jn the main, they are
courteous. And with almost no
exceptions they are personally
honest.

measure of responsibility on

official Washington is fright

wsiting won't be the principal
part of your Job If necessity
eve? brings you here for it
will be.
'THE only point that is sought
to be made Is that the ordi
nary Citizen, quite unacquainted
with the ropes, who comes her
with a reasonable proposition
will be able to get a courteous
hesrlng in tha course ot tlma.
It certainly does take time.
