JOE MARTIN AND HENRY FLETCHER Republican Leaders to Leave i Plane Here At Noon For 1 Trip To Roseburg Meet. Joseph W. Martin, Jr., con gressman from Massachusetts, ' minority leader in the house and chairman of the Republican ; national committee, and Henry i P. Fletcher, former national chairman and now the commit tee's general counsel, are ex pected to arrive at Medford mu nicipal airport from Reno via Sacramento by United Main liner at 12:18 p. m. tomorrow. They will be on their way to Roseburg where at 8 p. m. Mar tin will give a broadcast ad dress before the annual conven tion of the Oregon Republican club and affiliated organiza tions. They will be met at the airport here by Ralph Cake, Portland, Oregon national com mitteeman, Ralph Billings, Ash land, Jackson county represen tative on the state committee, and other local Republicans who will take the visitors by motor car to Roseburg. I Start At Once I The group will start for Rose burg Immediately after arrival of the plane as Martin is sched uled to begin a series of con ferences with party organization representatives at the conven tion as soon after 3:30 as pos sible, Niel R. Allen, Grants Pass, state chairman, informed the Mail Tribune by long dis tance telephone. Mr. Allen was t; leave for the Roseburg con vention this morning. Martin and Fletcher will re turn to Grants Pass Sunday morning for a day of steelhead : fishing. Martin, Fletcher and j Cake are booked to leave here by Mainliner for Portland at 9:23 p. m. Sunday. UP) The setting for a hot fight in the C regon state Republican con vention at Roseburg today was readied with attacks on the vot ing record of three of the state's four G. O. P. congressmen. Assailing the records of Reps. James W. Mott and Homer An gel!, and Sen. Rufus Holman for opposition to the lend-lease bill, neutrality act revision and ex tension of draftees' term of service, a group of delegates drafted a statement which will be pressed for adoption by the convention, , "In this -hour of crisis." the statement said, "let us make it clear to Senator McNary that we will support him In a strong er leadership and to Holman, Mott and Angell that we will not endure obstructionist tactics that play Into Hitler's hands." McNary must know, it con tinued, if his "statesmanship is tu continue to overcome his embarrassments, how strongly Oregon Republicans feel on questions of national defense that transcend party lines." STEER COST 7.4 CENTS LB. Market steers were Judged at the 4-H livestock show here yes terday, with the championship on a pen of three going to Clay ton Charley of Lake Creek. Clayton's steers graded good, and his production cost was listed as 7.4 cents a pound. The champion single steer was owned by Allene Owens, and hers was graded choice. These cattle are graded according to United States grades for slaugh tered cattle, and the prize win ners are selected on the basis of quality and cost of production. They are sold by sealed bids to have been announced this after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hand left Tuesday for their home in Portland after a week's visit with Mrs. Rand's daughter, Mrs. Merton Emerick, and hus band. School is running: nicely with at tend ence of 13 pupils, under leader, ship of the teacher, Mrs. Ruby Wise. Nearly all the eighth grade graduates are attending high school at Eagle Point. Mrs. Walter Marshall and Mrs. Lester Marshall entertained the Ladles' club at their home last Thurs ady. The time was spent visiting and sewing and refreshments were served later in the afternoon. Next meeting, October 9, will be with Mrs. Howard Johnson. W. M, Hansen ts putting up a new silo on his farm. Farmers In this vicinity who have silos have been busy the past two weeks cutting com and rilling them. Allen Henry returned Saturday from a trip to Portland where he had dental work done.
