Jones of 31 Meyers Court is reported to be improving in a hospital at Yre ka, Cal., where he underwent an emergency operation Thursday. Mrs. Jones is in Yreka with her husband. Salesman for Swift and company an northern Cali fornia, Mr. Jones was taken ill while on his route. Unruly Boys Jack J. Bezoff, 18. and William R. Walker. 20, both of Weed, Cal., were taken f!io city police station Friday night and released a short time later to return to their homes with friends. They were accused of being unruly at the Medford Weed football game at the sta dium. city police reported yes terday. v To Plan Plans for the annual observance of Armistice day will be one of the principal Items of business to be consid ered at the regular semi-monthly meeting of Medford post of the American Legion in the armory at 8 p. m. Winkle, post commander, said in inviting all interested members to be present. Likes His Work Homer C. Young, one of the youths who received employment at the Boeing airplane plant in Seattle through his studies in the sheet metal class at Medford high school, was a visitor here yes terday. He is working on plane wings and declared he likes his Job exceedingly well. "I've al ways wanted to work on air planes and the sheet metal class at the high school made it pos sible for me to get this kind of job," Young said. He had completed only six weeks of the 12 weeks' course when Boeing called for youths from Medford. Homer's brother Warren, in the same high school class, also is working at the Boeing plant. The two youths are sons of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Young who moved from here to Seattle recently. Martin Dua Joseph Martin, V. S. representative from Mas sachusetts, minority leader of the house and chairman of the Republican national committee, and Henry Fletcher, former na tional chairman and now coun sellor for the national commit tee, are expected to arrive here by plane next Saturday. They will be en route to Roseburg where Mr. Martin is to address the annual convention of the Oregon Republican club. They are to be met here by Ralph Cake of Portland. Oregon na tional committeeman, and the three are to continue to Rose burg by private plane, accord ing to present plans. The con vention in Roseburg will be held Friday and Saturday. Among Medford Republicans planning to attend are William M. Mc Allister, state representative, and Frank P. Farrell. Margaret Burger arrived from Portland late last evening. R. Plomert, Jr., left for San Francisco on the same place. R. Hanford arrived from San Francisco en the early evening plane. W. S. York arrived from Oakland late yesterday after "roon. John McAulise left for Portland on the same plane. Arriving yesterday noon were Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Spaulding and Mr. and Mrs. William Tay lor, from San Francisco. H. Kel ler departed for Portland on the same plane. Arriving yesterday forenoon frcm Portland were R. W. Cmtchfield and Mrs. H. Striker. Departing for San Fran cisco on the same plane were F. E. Fairfield, J. E Ballan tyne and J. F. O'Donnell. R. L. Thorsdale departed for San Francisco Friday midnight. Sleeter of Cargill court, left last Sunday by train for St. Louis, Mo., to begin his second year of medi cine at the Washington medical schoo. Dick spent the summer in Medford and at Lake o' Woods with his mother and other relatives. Minor Accident Mrs. -Ruth Gunnette of 48 Meyers Court reported to city police yesterday that her car skidded into a pole at 12th street and Riverside avenue Friday evening when she applied the brakes too quickly in avoiding a crash with a car backing from the curb. Damage was minor. Off To Hunt T. M. Gerety, Reneral manager of the B-H Mirring company, Bnd his crew of workers left early Friday morning for the mountains of eastern Oregon to hunt deer. The company shuts down its dredge operations every year to give the men a vacation and a chance to do a little hunting. Mr. Gerety's son Tom and Norton Smith accompanied the group. Father Passes Word was re ceived Saturday by Mrs. J. T. Fliegel, of College Hill, of the death of her father, James A. Van Camp, at the family home in Park Falls, Wis. Mrs. Fliegel and son Joe returned recently from a seven-weeks' visit with her father who had been ill for some time. Survivors include five children, all, excepting Mrs. Fliegel, residing in Park Falls. Funeral arrangements for Mr. Van Camp had not yet been made Saturday. At Airport Arrivals Friday at Medford municipal airport included Lieut.-Col. R. L. Tour tellott, who arrived early in the morning from Hamilton field, Cal., in a Curtiss pursuit plane and returned to the same station after spending the day here; Lleuts. A. L. Blum and R. G. Hochuli. Moffett field, Cal., to Portland in a Vultee basic train er; and Lieut. H. R. Hansen, Sacramento, Cal., to Fort Lewis, Wash., in a North American observation plane, with R. W. Owen and R. J. Bundar as pas sengers. Kiwanis Speaker R. W. Thig- pen, Portland, district traffic manager of the United Air Lines, will address the Kiwanis club at its weekly luncheon' meeting in the Hotel Medford tomorrow at 12:15. Mr. Thig- pen and Tom Blanchard, Port land, a field man of United Air Lines, are expected to return to Medford from Portland to night by Mainliner. On a tour of the state, they arrived In Medford by car Friday but left their automobile here to return to Portland for the week-end by plane Friday night. To Active Duty Orders were" received here yesterday for Henry R. Hood, a second lieu tenant in the infantry reserve, to report for active duty to the professor of military science and tactics at the Cruft labora tory, Harvard university, Cam bridge, Mass. The orders indi cated that Lieut. Hood would receive three months of special ized instruction at the univer sity. They directed him to pro ceed from here on or before September 27. Lieut. Jewett, superintendent of the Central Point schools was re-elected vice-president and Dennis Mc Guire, superintendent at Gold Hill was re-elected secretary treasurer. Plans were formulated at the meeting for the Jackson County Football Jamboree, to be held on the Medford senior high school field Friday, October 3. It was emphasized, however, that it Is unlawful at all times to leave a burning campfire un attended. There is still danger of, fire in the forest and the restrictions have been lifted primarily as n convenience to hunters, head quarters said. Little rain has fallen on the forest in the past few days, none at all in the Applegate district, and because of this hunters were asked to cooperate and do everything possible to prevent fires.
