Young arrived early last night from Portland. Arriving last evening were W. Coolcy, D. Roddy, C. Powers and Mrs. S. Dunbar, from Portland, and H. Hodson, from Seattle. Leaving on the wme plane were C. Silvey, to Oakland, and Or. W. Cole, to Los Angeles. H. Scudder, ar rived early last evening from San Francisco. G. Fallis arrived iate yesterday afternoon from Los Angeles. G. Hughes depart ed for Portland at noon. 7 Enlisted Seven men were enlisted for the air corps in the first half of September through the local regular army recruit ing office, 3gt Joseph W. Cush yuan, local recruiter, said today 'fhey were Henry C. Roach, Route 3; Lexie B. Oakes, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Oakes Route 1; Kenneth H. Patton, son of Mrs. C. Rease Braley, 245 Valley View Drive; Jack D Royse and Nick Rovito, Weed, Calif.; Dean P. Dettra, Superior, Wyo., who was employed by the Medford Corporation at the time of his enlistment: and William I . Gilberg. Hilt, Cal. All were enlisted for Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Mo. Patton is a grad uate of Stanford university class of 1941, and for the past four summers has been env ployed by the California Oregon Power company. Lee of Oakland, Cal., arrived here today for a visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Fish of Phoenix. Mr. and Mrs, Lee are completing an extensive motor tour of the Pacific north west.. Called To Shelton Charles B. Lewis of 308 Ashland avenue left last night by bus for Shel ten, Wash., where he was called by the critical Illness of his daughter, Mary Jane Lewis. Mrs. Lewis and Mary Jane have been spending the summer in Shelton with Mrs. Lewis' sister, Mrs. Arthur Binns. Going East E. M. Castner of Spokane. Wash., planned to leave this evening by train for New York via San Francisco after a two-day visit here with relatives. Mr. Castner will at tend the world series baseball games in New York. He retired last month as a conductor on the Union Pacific railroad. A com mittee composed of Anthony R Mano, Ray Palm, Robert Beatty ar.d Dan Ohrt was appointed to contact and assist the Medford lraffic Safety Council in its efforts to provide ways and means of reducing traffic acci dents and hazards in Medford. RECORD TAX BILL E Washington, Sept. 18 Final senate approval sent to President Roosevelt today the $3,553,400,000 tax bill biggest revenue measure in history and one designed fo help defray the mounting costs of national de fense. The legislation, which would impose heavier burdens on virt ually every citizen and corpora tion in the country, was ex pected to receive Mr. Roose velt's signature promptly. Final approval came on a voice vote. The bill's heavier taxes on in dlviduals and corporations would be effective on income for the current calendar year. while most of the excise. 94 "nuisance" taxes, would go into effect October 1. LINDBERGH ACCUSED OF SERVING HITLER Seattle, Sept. 18 UP) Charles A. Lindbergh was accused of attempting to divide the Amer ican people through anti-Semitism during a national crisis, by Dave Beck, international vice president of the teamsters union, in a radio address here last night. "If we start fighting each other we are lost," Beck said. "Hitler has won thus far, be cause his enemies were divided. He will continue to win as long as people listen to men like Lindbergh." piga PINT SCHOOL ARRANGE SALE OF E. H. Hedrick, city school superintendent, Leonard B May field, principal of the senior high school, and Glenn L. Linn, prin cipal of the junior high school, met with Frank Hull, city chair men, this forenoon to arrange for the sale of U. S. defense savings stamps in the schools. It was agreed to set up a teacher organization in the sen ior and junior high schools to carry on an educational program legarding defense savings bonds and stamps. Arrangements will be made also to have the sav ings stamps available for pur chase in the schools. Next week Mr. Hull and Mr. Hedrick will meet with the principals and teachers of the grade schools to arrange a plan of action. Sheriff Syd I. Brown is ar ranging for the sale of defense savings stamps in the county courthouse and savings stamps are to be available in the super intendent's office in city hall. Three thousand pieces of edu cational literature on defense savings bonds and stamps are being prepared for mailing to citizens by the water depart ment. E KILLED IN PARIS New York. Sept. 18. (TV- The NBC listening post heard the London radio say late today that two German soldiers had been killed and a third wounded in the most serious anti-Nazi at tack yet in German-occupied Paris. Paris, German -occupied France, Sept. 18. (P) German authorities announced today that shooting of hostages in re prisal for attacks on Germans would be extended to include not only communists but "all classes of the Paris population." The announcement came as a German non-commissioned offic er died of bullet wounds inflic ted Monday by an unidentified assailant in defiance of the exe cutions for previous attacks on members of the army of occupa tion.
