COLEMAN IS ELECTED IAD OF New officers of the Medford Ministerial association will pre side for the first time at the meeting scheduled for 10:30 a m. October 7 in the First Christ ian church. New president Is the Rev. R W. Coleman, pastor of the First Christian church. The Rev. Father Herald G. Gardner, rec tor of St. Mark's Episcopal church, is vice president, and Adjutant Charles K. Cox, head of the Salvation Army here, secretary-treasurer. The new of ficers were elected at the meet ing September 0. The association voted to com mend the Rev. Werner Jessen, pastor of the Zion English Luth eran church, to the ministerial association at Camas, Wash., whither he has been called. A notation was made of the Med ford association's appreciation of Mr. Jessen's services. The Rev. Louis C. Kirby, new pas tor of the First Methodist church, was accepted as a mem ber of the association. lie pledged his cooperation. Pre-Scheduling Now At Ashland Norma! Southern Oregon College of Education, Ashland, Sept. 18. (Spl) Pre-scheduling for the fall term Is now under way at Southern Oregon College of Ed ucation. Beginning students wi)l find it exceptionally valuable to arrange their registration sched ule some time preceding regis tration day. Freshman students will reg ister Monday, September 22, in the administration building at the college. Road Oiling; Program Completed for Year; Weather Hampers Job The road oiling program of Jackson county has been com pleted for the year County En gineer Paul B. Rynning report ed today. It will total about 12 miles, with portions in nrac- Itically every section of the county. Due to the cool weather not as much was done as planned, the county engineer said. Part of the Evans creek road was left unfinished and will be com pleted next year. Besides the county oiling, work was performed for Jack sonville, Rogue River, Ashland and Medford. Stock piles for emergency re pairs of the roads during the winter are now being as sembled. Work was started today on grading and surfacing a portion of Stewart avenue preparatory to oiling -next spring. Grading and surfacing of the Old Stage road for oiling next year will be completed. Grading and graveling of the county's share of Dead Indian road will be completed early next week and will then be ready for winter traffic. Repair of a bridge over Big Butte creek a mile above Me Leod has been started. County Departments Draw Expense Lists County officers are scheduled to have their budgets for the coming year, ready for submis sion at the first meeting of the budget committee next Thurs day. Those already submitted are running about the same as last year, according to the coun ty clerk's office. (Jl The state highway commission an nc-unccd today that its meeting .In Portland scheduled for Octo--ber 9 and 10 has been postponed until October 16 and 17. Automobile Ratio Among Oregonians Is 2.5 This Year Salem. Sept. 18. (.V) There is one motor vehicle in Oregon for every 2.5 per sons, with one private car to each 3.1 persons. Secretary of State Earl Snell said today. Oregon's ratio last year of one private car to each 3 ;t persons was third highest in the nation. California ami Nevada leading with 2.8 and 3.1, respectively. There are 422.210 vehicles of all kinds registered In the state, an Increase of 10 per cent over a year auo.
