The Rev. P. K. Hammond, former vicar of the Episcopal church in Ashland and promin ently known in southern Ore gon Masonic and Elks circles, died last night in the Good Sa maritan hospital at Portland. He had been ill for about a year. He was 84 years old. The Rev. Mr. Hammond was vicar of the Episcopal church in Ashland from 1913 to 1930. During part of this time he was also non-resident vicar of the church in Grants Pass. He was active in church, community and lodge affairs and became widely known for these activi ties. He was a past potentate of Hillah temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., Ashland, and a past exalted ruler of Ashland lodge of Elks. Born In London Mr. Hammond was born In London, England, Sept. 13, 1857. He came to the United States' when he was 19. He had been serving in the Oregon dio cese of the Episcopal church since 1899. His first Oregon parish was in Oregon City where he served from 1899 to 1907. He was rector of the Epis copal church in Eugene from 1907 to 1914. He next served in Ashland. ft Funeral services will be held in the Episcopal church at Ore gon City, where he had his first parish in this state, at 2 p. m. tomorrow. Interment will be in the Oregon City cemetery. Survivors are three sons. Ward Hammond, Medford, Philip, Oswego, and William, Oregon City, and a daughter, Mrs. Guy Yung, Grants Pass. Ward Hammond and his wife left this morning for Oregon City to attend the funeral. Prospect Prospect, Sept. 12. (Spl.) Mrs. Ivan Nye invited a group of children in to help her daughter, Betty Jean, celebrate her fourth birthday Sunday. Games wer play ed, and delicious refreshment were served to Betty Jean, Jimmy and Margaret Taylor, Kermlt and Clar ence Neville and Darwin Bean. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Oakte Wormelsdorf and children, Larry and Leah Jeane, of Medford, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hart, Thursday and Friday were the lat ter's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Lamb, of Coq utile. Announcements were received here telling of the birth of a six pound son to Mr. and Mrs. Olenn Dole, wno reside at Jantzer Village, at the Community hospital September 7. This is their second child and first son. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Green of Med ford spent the weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dobbyn. Mrs. Hattle Clark left for Medford the first of the week where she has employment. A California-Oregon Power com pany crew is lnttalllna; transformers at the George L. Jack Grant, employee at Cascade Goree resort, spent Saturday and Sunday with friends In Medford. Vail Johnson of Jacksonville baa taken the logging contract for the James Dole mill. He has hired his son-in-law, Russell Wormelsdorf, of Medford. and together with Mrs. Wormelsdorf and two children, moved their household goods here. Monday. Mrs. Hurry Hart had a pleasant surprise Monday vhen an uncle and aunt whom she had not seen for SO years, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dver. of Los Aruele. paid her a visit.
