T SCHOOL FOR OFFICIALS Councilmen, School Direct ors, County Officers To Get Latest Procedure. The latest Information on bud get procedure, the new fiscal year and the compulsory audit law will be presented at a "cchool" lor councilmen, school board members, county officials. budget committeemen and others connected with local finance, to be held here Tuesday, 7:30 p. m., September 16, in the court arous auditorium, it was an nounced today by Ralph Sweeney, county treasurer. Mr. Sweeney was recently named local chairman for the session to be sponsored here by the Oregon finance officers as sociation and the state division of vocational education in co operation with the state division of audits and the University of Oregon bureau of municipal re search. Wells Instructor M. D. Wells, secretary-treasurer of the state board of ac countancy, will act as instructor at the Medford session, Sweeney announced. The meeting, one of 18 similar "schools" being held throughout the state, will be open to of ficials and budget committee men of Josephine and Jackson counties, and of all cities and school districts located in this -varea. Important amendments passed t the last legislature affecting financial policy, budget making and local audits will be taken up by the expert instructors. Suggestions on how to prepare the special six-month budget this fall, taking Into considera tion problems of revenue, pay ment of long term obligations and other matters, will be given. The meeting Is the first of a aeries of four or five sessions which will be held as a part of a state-wide finance officers' training program requested at the last convention of that group. Additional meetings dealing with accounting, finan cial statements and other tech nical aspects of the local finance officers job will be scheduled afler budget making has been completed. AT CRATER LAKE TOPS 1940 TOTAL Crater Lake, Sept. 11, Spl.) Travel to Crater Lake national park for the current travel year to date exceeds that for the en tire year of 1940. At the end of September 8 333,395 visitors had been reg istered while for the entire 1940 travel year the total reached o2,482. The current travel year, which beean October 1 1940, will end September 30 at which time it Is anticipated that the registry of visitors will have approached or reached approxi mately 280,000. THE CITY OF MEDFORD DOTH ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Whereas ti.o city council did heretofore by resolu tion declare its intention to lay paving, curbs and gutters on Mae Street from Jackson Street to Saling Street and to assess the cost thereof on the property lronting on said portions of said street in proportion to the fron tage of said property and the benefits thereto and did fix the time and place for hearing pro tests against the laying of oav- ! ing. curbs and gutters on said street and the assessments of the cost thereof as aforesaid. And Whereas a meeting of the council was held at the time and place fixed in said resolution for j the purpose of considering any wtre at such time, or at any time made to or received by the Council to the laying of paving, curbs a.id gutters, on said Street or the assessing of the cost thereof as aforesaid, and said council has considered the mat ter and deeming that said laying of paving, curbs and gutters was and is of material benefit to said city and that all the property to be assessed therefor will be benefitted thereby to the extent of the probable amount of the respective assessments to be levied against said property did order the laying of said paving, curbs and gutters. And Whereas the cost of said paving, curbs and gutters has been and hereby is determined to be the sum of $4,946.27. Now Therefore, it is hereby further determined that the pro portionate share of the cost of laying of paving, curbs and gut ters of each parcel of property fronting on said portions of said street is the amount set opposite the description of each piece or parcel of land below and that each piece or parcel of land Is benefited by the laying of pav ing, curbs and gutters to the full extent of the amount so set op posite such piece or parcel and that the respective amounts rep resent the proportional benefits of said paving, curbs and gutters to said respective parcels of pro perty and also the proportional frontage thereof on said portions of said street and the council does hereby declare each of the parcels of property described be low, and each of the same is hereby assessed the amount set opposite each respective descrip tion for the cost of laying pav ing, curbs and gutters.
