Prentice. 517 Newton street, with a miscellaneous bridal shower. Visiting was enjoyed during the evening and games played. Assisting Mrs. Prentice were Miss Shirley Roseberry, Mrs. Robert Lee, Mrs. Robert Pren tice and Miss Helen McBeth. Present were the honored guest, Mesdames S. B. Lowery, Sr., Wesley Coffcen, P. H. Mrs. Chase Is Club Hostess Mrs. Carrie Chase was host ess to members of the Past Presidents' club of the Degree of Honor Protective association at the home of Mrs. Hattie Bradshaw on Tenth street Tues day evening. Plans were made for Past Presidents' night at lodge Sept. 25 with Katherine Smith in charge of the business session. Refreshments were served by .the hostess to Katherine Smith, Ida Wilson, Hattie Bradshaw. Adabee Seller, Edith Elliott, Mayne Seller. Church Officers Attend Dinner Thirty-two Presbyterian church officers and their wives were guests of Dr. and Mrs. Sherman L. Divine Friday eve ning at the Old Stage house in Phoenix. Following dinner the program for the new church year was discussed, the budget adopted and a social hour closed the evening. Church Treasurer Ralph E. Sweeney reported all current obligations paid in full to date and the liquidation of $500.00 of outstanding bonds. Soloist To Be , On Church Program Helen High Pierce will be soloist at the First Methodist church this morning when she will sing "The Lord's Prayer1 by Malotte. Mrs. Pierce has re cently returned from Portland where she took a short course In the Master Classes conducted by Lazar S. Samoiloff, eminent vocal pedagogue, of Los Angeles, Cal., and originally of New York City. E. S. of Jacksonville opened their fall session with a covered-dish din ner in the dining room of the Masonic hall Thursday evening. Decorations consisted of bright- colored asters and early fall flowers. Mrs. Fay Peters, worthy ma tron, welcomed the members and visitors after their vacation of two months. The next meet ing will be a social night to which members and visitors are invited. Mrs. Ina Huson told of her visit to Honolulu this summer and described the many beauties of the islands. Mrs. Lulu Sauls berry told of the Natal day celebration which is observed at Powers each year and at tended recently by Mrs. Sauls berry. Mrs. Lorena McNair and Mrs. Margaret Whittle, of Ash land. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Lance of Foots Creek, who have been members of Adarel chapter for over 40 years but who have been unable to attend for several years, were welcomed, as were Mrs. Paul Rynning of Reames chapter and Mrs. Christian of Mt. Hood chapter in Portland. Church Croup Discusses Liberty "Liberty and Justice for All" was the topic of the program for the Adult Missionary society of the First Christian church Tues day afternoon with Mrs. Julia Gregory presiding over the busi ness session. Mrs. May Hon was in charge of the program and read a poem only Believe written by Mrs. Frick; Mrs. Maybelle Klemm gave a talk on "Democracy" and Mrs. Alice Davis related a story, "The Back Door." "Home Missions Meeting the Test" was given by Mrs. Ethel Latham and later Mrs. Eudora Bohnert sang a number. Devo tions were led by Mrs. Minnie Crisp and later Mrs. Estella Hop kins and group served refresh ments. Plans were completed for an nual visitation day, Sept. 16. Biounty W.C.T.U. Session Scheduled A bl-county convention of Jackson and Josephine unions of W. C. T. U. is to be held Friday at 10 a. m. in the Metho dist church of Grants Pass. The Ashland union will have morn ing devotionals and music and the Medford members will be in charge of a memorial service. Luncheon is to be prepared and servea py the hostess group witn welcome speeches and mu sical selections. The afternoon will be devoted to Mrs. Eva May Wise, state secretary of the Youth Temper ance conference who will give a talk. A speaker will also be present from the Children's farm and slides will be shown. A banquet for young people fol lowed by speakers and a medal contest will close the evening. Smyth-Pomeroy Wedding Held The marriage of Miss Mary Elizabeth Smyth to Mr. Corbyn Roche Pomeroy took place Sep tember 3 at Reno, Nev. The ceremony was held at the Meth odist parsonage Wednesday eve ning. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Orville Smyth of Hildebrand, Ore., and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Harold Pomeroy of Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Pomeroy will spend the first part of their wedding trip at Lake Tahoe. later motoring through the Yo semite valley. After visiting in San Francisco they expect to return by the Redwood highway to their home on the Old Mili tary road near Medford. Repair Service Party Given In Honor Of Mrs. Clara Young Mrs. Clara Young, who left Thursday evening for a six week's vacation in the east, was honored Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Walter Young, 45 Modoc avenue. Dessert was served followed by an evening of bridge with Miss Martha De Souza scoring high. Attending were Mrs. Clara Young. Mrs. Frank DeSouza, Miss Martha DeSouza, Mrs. Wil liam Rutherford. Mrs. William Davidson, Mrs. Robert Naumes, Mrs. L. Foster, Mrs. Elizabeth Hartley and Mrs. M. Wells. Dinner Honors Frank Rector A covered dish dinner given by Canton Siskiyou, No. 16 and auxiliary in the l.O.O.F. hall Friday evening honored Frank Rector, who is leaving shortly for Agate, Colo., for a visit. Visitors from Jacksonville were A. T. Lundgren, Mrs. Alice Ulrich and Mrs. Hattie Logan. Plans were made for an all day meeting to be held at the Ed Pease cabin at Prospect, Sep tember 28. Book Review On Program Mrs. Leland Mentzer will give a review of the book, "Of Men and Women" by Pearl Buck at the meeting of the Rogue River Valley College club which meets Saturday at 2:30 p. m. with Mrs. Porter J. Rebekah Lodge Plans Party Olive Rebekah lodge made plans for the district convention of Rfbekahs to be held in Glen- dale, Nov. 6 when they met in regular session at the l.O.O.F. hall Monday evening. The dis trict conclave will be attended by Jackson and Josephine coun ty Rebekah club members. A back-to-school party has been planned for Sept. 19 and all who attend are asked to come prepared to give a stunt. Luncheon Is to be brought in tin pail or paper bag and the committee is arranging an "old oaken bucket under an old oak tree." A rummage sale will be held Sept. 12 and 13 in the Scott Davis building on North Central avenue . Rebekahs residing in Medford, who are not active in the local lodge ,are being contacted by local lodge members in the an nual membership contest with members .divided into pink and green sides. Daughters Of Nile Plan Meeting Klamath Falls Daughters of the Nile will be honored at the first fall meeting of Daughters of the Nile to be held Saturday at 12:30 p. m. in the Medford Masonic hall. At that time Queen Ruth Brownell of Grants Pass will give a report on the su preme session which she attend ed recently in Pittsburgh, Pa Luncheon will be served, fol lowed by entertainment furnish ed by the Medford group. Open ing at 10 a. m. in the civic building a potluck luncheon will be enjoyed In the park at noon and those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and service. In the afternoon State Pres ident Mrs. Daniel Heffner will discuss work of the federation and speak on some phases of the judging school. The meeting is open to all Garden club members and those desiring transportation are asked to meet at the Medford Chamber of Commerce on or before 9:30 a. m. Tuesday. A special Medford Garden club meeting will be held Wed nesday at 7:30 p. m. when Mri. Eunice Curtis of Seattle will speak on "Flower Arrange ments" at the Lincoln school auditorium. Mrs. Curtis, nation ally known authority on the subject, will conduct class in flower arrangement Thursday if a sufficient number show in terest in the subject.
