JP) Chief tains of 19 railroad unions announced today that they had been authorized to call a nation wide strike In an effort to enforce demand for wage In creases. Heads of the non-operating unions with a membership of approximately 900,000 set Sept 11 as the date for a strike. Officials of the five operating groups, said that 98.7 of their 3S0.000 members voted in favor ef a strike. The leaders of the operating unions reported that prelimi nary figures on a strike authori zation vote showed that out of 287,000 votes cast. 283.429 were for a strike and 3,571 were against. The heads of the 14 co-operating railroad labor unions representing more than 900.000 employes throughout the United States announced today that these employes by their votes have authorized the call of a strike In order to bring about adjustment of the pending nation-wide controversy involving wage Increases, vacations with pay and the efforts of some of the carriers to make changes in rules governing conditions. "The employes involved In this action include all classes 4 and crafts of railway employes, excepting those in train, engine and yards service. The em ployes, the heads of the unions announced, have voted to au thorize a strike, on all railroads by majorities from 93 to 100 per cent. "At a meeting early this morning the chief executive of ficers of the 14 unions decided to immediately act under 4he authority given them by the employes and they are mailing to their memberships through out the country today permis sion to strike at 6 p. m. Sept. 11, 1941. 'This action was taken, the heads of the unions pointed out, in order to bring into play the last remaining machinery of the railway labor act for adjustment of railway labor disputes." Alvanley Johnston, head of 4- the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, said that the operat ing unions would announce a date for a strike within three days. Johnston said that the oper ating unions undoubtedly would reject a proposal to arbitrate the dispute. Cong- Pierce Lunches Redmond, Sept. 9 (IP) Con gressman Walter M. Stuff with blended Ingredients. Set uprignt in anauow pan, add half Inch layer oz coning water and bake as minutes In mod erate oven. E walloped Applee and Sweet Potatoes t cups sliced peeled potatoes a cupe sliced peeled applee 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1- 3 cup brown sugar 4 teaspoon salt 3 teaspoona flour 4 cup butter 18 cup water Mix together the potatoes, apples, cinnamon, sugar, salt and flour. Add Ingredients, bake 3ft minutes In but tered pan. Fruit Lemon Sauce 1 cup granulated sugar S tablespoons flour S tablespoons lemon juice i eup prune juice V4 eup apricot Juice 1S eup water 3 tablespoons butter teaspoon salt teaspoon nutmeg Blend sugar with flour, add juices and water. Cook alowly for five min utes. Stir frequently. Add Ingredi ents, serr warm.
