She is able to have friends call now. Executive Leaves Arthur Fanner, manager of the Port land Chamber of Commerce, left yesterday for home via Klamath Falls after transacting business here since last Satur day night. He conferred yester day with Frank Hull, manager of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. a Drivers Fined Clifford E. Medley. 18, Eagle Point, was fined $1.50 and S4.S0 costs in justice of the peace court this morning for operating a car without a muffler. Otto Nieder V meyer, 46, Route 2, was fined the same sum for operating a truck without a stop-light. Both pleaded guilty. Navy Han Home Vernon Johnson, son of Mrs. Hazel Fish, Route 1, is home on leave from the U. S. navy. He has com pleted his preliminary training at the San Diego, Cal., station and will be assigned to duty as an electrician's mate when he returns to San Diego at the expiration of his leave about September 10. V Home On Leave Dale John son, son of Mrs. Geraldine John son. 1028 West 11th street, is , home on a leave of absence from the U. S. navy. Johnson recently completed a three months' course in the navy's machinist school at the Ford Motor company. Dearborn, Mich., and is now assigned to duty in the machine shop of the de stroyer base at San Diego. Well-Baby Clinic The Sep tember well-baby clinic will be held in the Sparrow memorial suite of the Jackson county health department in the court house from 1 to 4 p. m. Thurs day. Dr. A. E. Merkel, county health officer, will be in charge, Elizabeth McGalliard, county nurse, assisting. Parents were asked to telephone 4383 for appointment. Prise Fish William Knaffa of Bakersfield. Cal., won the prize for catching the largest fish during August at the Rocky Point resort, it was announced today by the Lake o" Woods ranger station of the Rogue River national forest. The prize V winner was a rainbow trout weighing nine pounds and six ounces. First prize for the month was a casting rod with reel and line. e Minor Accidents Harry A. Tilley of San Francisco, secre tary of the Western Pine asso ciation for California and south ern Oregon, left this morning with H. C. Obye, assistant super visor of the Rogue River na tional forest, to inspect some privately-owned cut-over timber land in the Union Creek dis trict. J. 4i A career of public service last ing more than 40 years was i ended today In death of Dr. George C. Pardee, governor of ! DURNER h California from 1902-1906. He was 84. He died at his home here yes terday where he was living in retirement with his wife and two daughters. Dr. Pardee, who attained na tional prominence in 1909 for his handling of emergencies in the San Francisco earthquake and fire, continued active in public life until Illness forced sharp curtailment of his activi ties last May. He resigned then as member of the Oakland port commission and the Eastbay municipal utility district PINAL RUES FOR Funeral service for Ethelyn Elizabeth Barrow, 20, wife of Albert Ray Barrow and daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Mo Bee, of 206 Cottage street, will be conducted from the Perl funeral home on Wednesday af ternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. R. W. Coleman, pastor of the first Christian church, officiat ing. Interment will take place in Siskiyou Memorial park. Mrs. Barrow, who suffered fatal injuries in an automobile accident on the Diamond Lake highway late Sunday afternoon, was born in Medford April 2. 1921, and had lived here all her life. She was graduated from Medford senior high school last May, and was married on June 1. She is survived by her hus band, her parents, and one brother, Capt. Weldon H. Mo Bee, commanding officer, Co. A, 186th infantry. Fort Lewis. Wash., and one sister, Mrs. Ed ward Taylor of Monterey, Cal. Her mother and her sister are both confined in local hospitals with serious injuries they sus tained in the accident. Capt. McBee arrived here late yesterday for the funeral, and to be with his Injured mother. Lake Creek Lake Creek, Sept. 2.
