The telegram asked Mr. DeSouza if he could notify Miss Swenson at "her claim." An investigation showed that a Miss E. Hildegarde Swen son has mining claim near Steamboat In the Applegate dis trict but inquiry by Ben Daw son, a rancher nearby, brought the information that Miss Swen son had left the mine for Med ford to take a plane for San rancisco. AUTO WLATORS F City Judge William Allen as sessed three automobile drivers $10 each this morning on charges of traffic law violations. A. J. Anderson was fined that amount on a charge of failure to give right-of-way after his car struck one operated by R. B. Gardner of Glendale, Ore., at North Bartlett and Fourth streets Wednesday morning, po lice stated. On the same charge, A. E. Gebhardt of 1520 North River side avenue was fined $10, the citation following an accident on North Riverside .avenue last night In which his machine pulled from the curb and struck a machine operated by Carl H. Wintermood, according to police. Cletis Baker of Ashland was fined $10 for violation of the basic rule on East Main street this morning. OP) Captain Lord Louis Mountbatten, cousin of King George VI of England and one of Great Britain's most dis tinguished naval officers, form ally took command of the air craft carrier Illustrious, under going repairs, this morning. Captain Mountbatten, who has had two ships of his command sunk, succeeds Captain G. Sey mour Tuck, D.S.O. His first official duty was an inspection of the marine guard of honor, after which he was presented to the ships officer and then to Lieut. Comdr. Rob ert Vining, public relations of ficer for the fifth naval district, and his staff of officers. Captain Mountbatten made an Informal talk to the ship's of ficers and men. The press was asked not to quote his remarks. Today was the first time that newspaper and newsrcel men were permitted aboard the Illus trious since it was damaged last January in a seven-hour attack by nazl planes In the Mediter ranean. Captain Mountbatten, accom panied by Lady Mountbatten, arrived recently In America by clipper. The British press serv ice announced a number of days ago the famous aircraft carrier Illustrious was In an American shipyard undergoing repairs, and that Captain Mountbatten would command the ship and supervise the work on repairing. The announcement that the 23.000-ton vessel was in an American shipyard did not dis close the ship's exact where abouts. Last June the British admiral- Wonder Horse to" Thundercloud and 'Thun der,," famous wild horse who plays the Silver Stallion, are in support of Sharps and a cast of native characters.
