Jerry Is the regular carrier on route 20 for the Mail Tribune. e At Camp John A. Phelps, Portland, assistant regional per sonnel officer of the farm secur ity administration, arrived this noon by car to transact business pertaining to the migrant agri cultural labor camp the admin istration has established here. Visit Mrs. Frances Marr and son of San Francisco arrived here by train today for a visit at the home of Mrs. A. L. Shan V non of Jacksonville. Also visit ing at the Shannon home are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Warren and daughters, Geraldine and Frances, of Tacoma, Wash. On Leave George C. Schmidt, welfare officer of the Medford CCC district, now on terminal leave, departed this morning for Roseburg. The Medford district will be absorbed by the Sacra mento, Cal., and Vancouver Bar racks, Wash., districts at the end of this month. Par Call W. H. Friedhoff, mineral expert from the U. S. regional forester's office at San Francisco, and C. L. Stewart, law officer from the Portland office, called at Rogue River national forest headquarters to day. They were en route by car from Klamath Falls to Rose burg. ' On Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Angus L. Bowmer are on a fort night vacation in southern Cali fornia. Mr. Bowmer is drama teacher at the Southern Oregon College of Education in Ashland and Mrs. Bowmer is a deputy clerk in the recording depart ment at the county clerk's of fice. They left last Saturday by motorcar for Los Angeles. Getting Yew Wood F. A. Archer of Long Beach, Cal., Is encamped with 10 Boy Scouts of Long Beach at the South Butte camp below Fish lake in the Rogue River national forest. Mr. Archer is on his annual pilgrimage to the forest to gath er yew wood for bows to be used in archery. The Boy Scouts are assisting him. Agrees To Leave John C. Middleton, 34, transient, was sentenced by Justice of the Peace William R. Coleman yes terday afternoon to 15 days In jail on a charge of being drunk on a public highway. The court agreed to suspend the sentence if Middleton agreed to leave the county. Middleton agreed. He was arrested Sunday night near Gold Hill. Minor Accidents Gordon D. Moore of 27 Rose avenue and Albert Pederson of Ashland drove cars involved in a slight mishap at ""ourth street and Central avenue this morning, a report on file said. Wayne Troxell of Route 1 and S. C. Bell, no address given, drove cars colliding with minor dam age on the West Phoenix road five miles south of Medford yes terday afternoon, according to a report on file today. Machines operated by Marshall B. Sweet of Sams Valley and Lewis A. Wilkinson, no address given, were involved In a slight acci dent on the Sams Valley road 21 miles north of the Sams Valley store yesterday morning, a report on file said today. Defense attorneys said they would complete examination of Thomas, and indicated he would be their only witness. Thomas followed 11 prosecu tion witnesses to the stand yes terday, but adjournment inter rupted his testimony after he had told of hitching a ride on June 11 with Smith, who was driving from Wallace, Idaho, to Aberdeen, where his mother was ill. Unconfirmed reports that a price order had been written that would put a ceiling of $2.50 a case on Cohoes salmon touched off the discussion. Alaska salmon packers were told, according to dealers, that the government would require 1.000,000 cases of specified sizes of cans.
