NAPTHA SOAP 40c PAY CASH AND SAVE m Titlist ET Ml Nye Matthews. 33, of Eagle Point, whose body was discover ed floating in Rogue river late Wednesday afternoon, met death by accidental drowning, accord ing to findings returned by the Jury at a coroner's inquest con ducted by District Attorney George W. Neilson last night. Five witnesses testified at the inquest. They were Mr. and Mrs. Dave Biles of route 1, Gold Hill; Mrs. Mae Matthews, wife of the deceased; Sheriff Syd I. Brown and Al Stoehr, state po liceman. Testimony of Mrs. Matthews disclosed that while she and her husband were driving Biles from Medford to his residence near the Foots creek Junction with the Pacific highway north of Gold Hill last Sunday morning. Matthews and Biles got into an argument and that a minor scuf fle ensued after the Matthews car. driven by Mrs. Matthews, had been stopped at the Foots Creek Junction to let Biles out to go to his home. Ofiicer Arrives Mrs. Matthews testified that in attempting to separate the two men she received a blow on the Jaw, after which Biles left the scene and went to his house. A few minutes later the state po liceman arrived on the scene and placed Matthews under ar rest, later filing a complaint charging him with being drunk on a public highway. While the officer was pushing the Mat thews car off the shoulder of the road into a safer parking place, Matthews leaped out of the po lice car and ran into the night. That was the last seen of him until his body was recovered Wednesday. Biles was extremely nary re garding what happened, and tes tified he didn't remember quar- n. n.iih Matthews.
