Hedrick Another national deftnie course, marine welding, has been approved for Medford by the federal government and will get under way at the Med ford senior high school shop in the next 10 days or two weeks it was announced today by E. H Hedrick, city school superin tendent. Delbert J. Bergman of Bergman s shop, 118 South Bart' lett street, will be the instructor and will be paid with govern ment funds. The class, Hedrick said, would accommodate two groups of IS youths each, with each group in session three and a half hours at night. Plate scrap iron will be furnished free by the Port land shipyards, Hedrick stated, and added that the government was sending 10 arc welders and acetylene cutting equipment here for the class. The course will be given free, and youths interested are asked to contact Hedrick in about a week. At present, classes in aviation sheet metal work are being conducted at the high school. ELI AT CAVE CITY FOR office of production management was plight of silk workers re training and rehiring them in defense work. Col. J. S. Stromme, com manding officer of the Portland air base and Joe Carson, in spector general for civilian de fense in Oregon and state com mander of the American Le gion, will both speak the aft ernoon of August 30 at Cave City as that town opens its three-days Miners' Jamboree, j scheduled for August 30, 31 ' and September 1. ' Elwood Hussey, secretary of the Cave City Chamber of Commerce, said today that Col. Stromme would talk on avia tion, and that Carson would speak on civilian defense. The addresses will be given in the Cave City theatre. Another Portland man who is expected to attend the jam boree is Capt. Alford Kelley, past state commander of the American Legion, Hussey said. Other features of the jam boree will be a queen's ball the night of August 30, an historical parade on Labor day, Septem ber 1; a carnival, gold mining contests and mineral exhibits. Attending the jamboree will dc the Happy Camp, Cal., Amer ican Legionnaires and members of the Miner's association. Paralysis Scare in Canadian Town Armstrong, B. C, Aug. SO. Intelligence agents of the de fending forces have been won dering how the reds have often managed to charge their rear lines in their own territories with damaging tank attacks. - The investigating officers dis covered yesterday three large army supply trucks loaded with yellow painted jeeps, knee-high command cars that are being used to represent tanks. Officers in the defending forces complained to umpires the reds were taking unfair ad vantage of the fact that each jeep represents four tanks, and that three army trucks can con sequently convey 36 "tanks" to strategic positions behind their lines.
