v JERSEY BREEDERS' TOURS Ai PICNIC SLATED IS WEEK 4-H Calf Projects to Be Eyed Today Tour and Picnic Scheduled on Saturday Jersey breeders around here wIU have a field day for the rest of the week, climax being a picnic Saturday in Lithia park. Ashland. Rogue River Jersey Cattle club will be host. Activities started today with a tour of inspection of 4-H Jer sey calf projects in this county. This tour will be continued to morrow, L. E. Francis, county 4-H club agent, and T. R. War ren of Portland, western field man for the American Jersey Cattle club, making the inspec tion with a 4-H club committee composed of C. J. Hunter, Bob Lytle and J. R. McCracken of Ashland. At 8 p. m. tomorrow Warren will show pictures at a meeting of the Rogue River Jersey Cattle club at the Jackson county courthouse auditorium. The club embraces both Jackson and Jose phine counties. Warren will ex hibit pictures of Jersey cattle taken this summer in Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado and Arizona. He will also present a motion picture of modern methods of milk production, fea turing Jersey 'creamlined dai ries at Olympia, Wash. Tour Saturday The club will conduct a tour Saturday, starting at 9:30 a. m. at Charles Campbell's Perrydale dairy two miles from Medford on the Jacksonville highway. The tour will then go. In turn, to the W. T. La Font farm (for merly the J. A. Manke farm), the Joy and Enders Ladino Jer sey farm south of Ashland and the Dickens' farm (formerly Charles Brown's), also south of Ashland. After the tour the Jersey Breeders' picnic will be held in Lithia park. Coffee, Jersey cream and ice cream will be fur nished by the cattle club. The appeal of John (Jack) O'Brien of the Applegate, from the verdict of a circuit court Jury, awarding Inez Gleason $300 in her damage suit has been abandoned and settlement made by O'Brien. Both litigants are residents of the Applegate. The suit was based upon a quarrel In an auto last Decem ber. In which the plaintiff al leged she was struck in the face by O'Brien, resulting in facial Injury. O'Brien claimed he was attacked and used only suffic ient force in resisting to keep the car from plunging off the road. The woman was formerly employed by O'Brien as a housekeeper. Big Tuna Catch North Bend, Ore., July 24 W) The fishing boat Rogue landed 1200 pounds of tuna here this week, the first sizeable catch of the season. E IN FEHL ACTION 2PIT01RR0W Arguments on the forcible entry and detainer suit involv ing title of the Pacific Record Herald building on Sixth street, formerly owned by Earl H. Fehl, former county judge, now on parole from the Oregon state hospital, are scheduled before Justice of the Peace W. R. Cole man tomorrow at 2 p. m. In volved in the action besides Fehl are Corinthia A. Stailey, and his wife. Electa A. Fehl. They are represented by Attor ney Roy Hewett of Salem. A forcible entry and detainer suit has been filed against W. F. Oliver, also a rentor in the building. The remainder is oc cupied by the City Cleaners, operated by the Watson Bros. The two suits are allied. Several motions to strike have been filed by Fehl's coun sel, to the answer by District Attorney G. W. Neilson. The actions concern the title to the building, which reverted to J. B. Thomas of Ashland and the late Ted Heimroth of Grif fin creek district, by virtue of tax foreclosure sale three years ago. Fehl was also in debted to them for loans. The employers earlier had agreed to union demands for a 12V4-cent-an-hour pay Increase to $1.12V4 but asked elimination of a 10 per cent premium for night work. Moore, Portland, secre tary of the organization which sought to institute the referen dum against the bill providing free textbooks for private and parochial schools. On the advice of Attorney General I. Van Winkle. Snell recently refused to file the ref erendum petitions. Van Winkle said an Insufficient number were In proper form. NO SALARY BOOST FOR PORTLAND TEACHERS Portland, July 24 W) The Portland school board decided last night to prepare its 1941-42 scholastic year budget on a basis of no general salary increases.
