Newspaper Page Text120 GET TRAINING IN PACKING PEARS AT LOCAL SCHOOL Second Session Will Start First Week In August Composition Pears Used Br Jaunassa Butler With L. M. Patricia Riley ai office manager, alx Instructor and 120 students. the Vocational Training Pear Packing School opened Monday noon at Pinnacle No. 2, South Front and Fourteenth streets Two shifts are being conducted daily, from one to five in the afternoon and from six to ten In the evening, with sixty students In each shift. The number of registrants has, to date, reached 16S, the school still receiving applications for the second session which will start during the first week In August. The time of shifts may be changed after fruit picking tarts, Mr. Bodin stated. Use Composition Pears Composition pears, furnished by the University of Oregon, are now being used for the practice pack, the "laboratory" work consisting of wrapping and pack ing the "pears", removing them from the box and repeating the practice. Instructors are Nora Kirkpatrick, Alice Wolff, Rose Kindle, Lena Clemens, Lois Mc Kee and Mary Lou Vorhies. Certificates to be used as "diplomas" when the students graduate will be issued by the Oregon State Educational de partment at Salem and will be given without fee to the gradu ated trainees. The majority of students are aald to be from Medford and surrounding rural districts with a few from Ash land and Gold Hill. Annual Installation will be .held by the Christian Youth council Monday evening, In Lith ia Park at Ashland. All young people of the various church or ganizations are asked to meet at 7:5 p. m. at the Presbyterian church In Medford. The group will then drive to Ashland for the ceremony which is termed one of the most Important on the organization's calendar. The Rev. R. W. Coleman has been elected adviser for the com ing year. The Rev. Werner Jes sen will officiate at the Installa tion. After the formal meeting a watermelon feed will be en- Joyed. All are urged to attend. "Aeroplane" Editor Gets Secret Trial London, July 17 W) Edwin Colston Shepherd, editor of "Aeroplane," Britain's leading non-official authority on mili tary aviation, went on secret trial today on a charge of publishing "information which might directly or indirectly be useful to the enemy. ETO 4P.MJ0M0RR0W The Hotel Medford Lounge southern Oregon's newest and most luxuriously modern lounge will be opened to the public Fri day, July 18, at 4 p. m., under the management of George Rob ertson. The lounge will be oper ated under the new Oregon law governing cocktail bars. It will be open daily from 11 a. m. to 2 a. m. idb smau aining room on we main floor of the hotel has been completely remodeled Into the lounge and equipped with air conditioning. There is a direct entrance from Ivy street into the lounge, as well as an entrance from the hotel lobby. The lounge is finished In bleached mahogany to give an ultra modernistic atmosphere. Furnishings carry out the same smart styling. The booths will be cushioned In blue leather and the cocktail bar will be similarly styled. A rose carpet will soften the tread of feet as well as serve a decorative purpose. Flourescent lamps will pro vide a soft flood of illumination and blue mirrors will form a flattering wall background. Mr. Robertson, the manager, Is well known throughout south ern Oregon. He has served as manager of the Rogue River Valley Golf association ariU is widely known as a sports arbiter. Elbert "Irish" Coleman, Chet Coe and Del Marshall will be regular members of the staff of the smart new Hotel Medford lounge.
