Headquarter! of Jackion county local boards No. 1 and 2 emphasized again today that registrants under the selective traininz and service act are alone responsible for giving! notice of any change in their addresses. L The responsibility of the local ' board ends when any necessary correspondence is mailed to the registrant at the latest address he has given. As a serious pen alty Is provided for not respond ing to any correspondence from a local board or other author ized body, it is a matter of grave importance to the registrant to see to it himself that the board Is notified immediately of any change of address, headquarters said, adding that thus far the boards have been lenient but pointing out that there was no assurance the leniency would continue. Must Notify Board If a registrant is going away somewhere to work for what he thinks will be a short, tempor ary period, he should report In person to board headquarters and discuss the probability of his being called in the near fut- ture. It was explained. Headquarters issued the state ment in the face of a mounting pile of correspondence being re turned because the registrant was not at the address on the board's records. One of the difficulties in the first registration, it was related, was that in the blank for the address of the person most like ly to know where the registrant would be the registrant invar iably wrote the name of his wife. Experience has shown, however, that whenever the reg istrant moves, temporarily or permanently, the wife moves too. In the July 1 registration. registrants were requested to give the name of someone other than a wife. Aluminum Factory Set For Tacoma Portland, Ore., July 11. (P) A defense aluminum plant at Tacoma, tentatively announced last week, has been assured, Dr, Paul J. Raver, Bonneville power administrator, disclosed today It will be one of three fac tories constructed in the north- west and operated with Bonneville-Grand Coulee power. Salvation Army At Rogue River, Cold Hill Sunday The Salvation Army will con duct special open-air meetings in Rogue River and Gold Hill tomorrow night. Adjutant Charles K. Cox announced to day. Services In Rogue River will be held in the band stand in the center of town at 7:30. Gold Hill services will be held on the way back to Medford. All persons going to the special meetings from here were re quested by Adjutant Cox to re port not later than 6:45 p. m. at Salvation Army headquarters here. Fourth and Bartlett streets. Adjutant Cox will be assisted in conducting the services by Mrs. Cox. The public is .invited to attend. Similar services have been held in Ashland, Central Point, Eagle Point and Jackson ville on previous Saturdays. The visits to surrounding towns on Saturday evenings will be continued throughout the sum mer. Adjutant Cox said. The Salvation Army will con duct the summer vesper services in city park at 5 p. m. Sunday. 255,36TTTAUATL0SS .It Rome, July 11. (JP) Italy has lost 255,361 men in 13 months of war on the land and sea and in the air, according to official figures. This total was announced yes terday with publication of a June casualty list of 10,286 men, excluding losses not yet reported from east Africa. IS KILLED BY CAR Crater Lake National Park, July 11. (Spl) The unprece dented traffic which used the highways in Crater Lake na tional park on July 4 as well as the large groups of people proved entirely too bewildering and confusing for "Brownie," one of this year's bear cub trip lets, and he met an untimely death under the wheels of a car. The old mother bear emerged from hibernation this spring trailed by three lively and most attractive cubs not much larger than an ordinary house cat, two black and the third brown with black circles framing his eager and searching eyes. "Brownie" had plenty "bear appeal," and his popularity grew by leaps and bounds. Thus it war auite natural that people in passing stopped to see and to take pictures of this most photogenic wildlife family. And, unfortunately, it was quite nat ural that these self same peo ple would, on occasion, toss food to the bear family in order to get a little closer picture of them. So It was that the family fre quented the most traveled high way in the park, and a modern highway under even ordinary traffic conditions is the last place to bring up a cub bear to maturity, just as it Is the last place to bring up a boy or girl. And the people who stopped to admire "Brownie, to take his picture and, most incriminating, to toss food to him, all innocently enough, con tributed to his unfortunate con tact with a man-made machine. For the safety of the visitors and in the best interests of the wildlife itself, the national park service for the past several seasons has had a regulation which prohibits the feeding, teasing, or molesting In any way of bears and all other forms of wildlife. The public is urged to give support to this policy which has proven sound and wise so that a reoccurrence of a Brownie's permanent disap pearance from the park scene might be avoided and so that the wildlife might work out its own way of life with a mini mum interference from man. is) PLANNER-On Harry M. Rev. Weston Speaks in Eagle Pt. Sunday Eagle Point, July 11 .(Spl) Rev. Luther G. Weston of Medford will be guest speaker at the Highway tabernacle here Sunday at 8 p. m. Rev. Weston, a former pastor of the taber nacle, will be glad to meet all his old friends and acquaint ances. At 11 a. m. Rev. M. R. Bruns wick, pastor, speaks on "Pre paredness." Special vocal selec tions at both services. The or chestra will play in the eve ning. Sunday school, 9:45 a. m. with classes for all ages. Chil dren's church at 7 p. m. Bible study Wednesday at 8 p. m. The public is cordially invited to all of the services. WILL START SOON All Ladino clover growers who wish to have their Ladino seed certified this season are asked to make application at the county agent s office for field inspection. It Is necessary that all applications be in at once so that the time necessary for field inspection can be esti mated. Applications will close on July 19 and inspection is ex pected to start soon after that date. INK LONG RESIGNS LOCAL UNION POSI Jack Long today announced his resignation as secretary treasurer of Teamsters & Chauf feurs local 962, a position he has filled for 4 1 i years. He also served once as secretary-treasurer of the Central Labor Coun cil. Mr. Long said he would take a vacation. Other than that he has no plans for the future, he stated. The resignation was ef fective immediately. Assistant Librarian Will Act in Charge Salem, July 11. (.F) Two navy men who had never seen each other before met in a service man's center here yesterday. They began to chat and after a brief talk fourd out they were brothers. The elder was Chief Petty Of ficer Claude Page, 42, of New York, who enlisted in the navy in 1919. The other was G. D. Page, 19, who was born three years after Claude left home. G. D. enlisted three years ago, and is now a pharmacist's mate. Communications Soldier Dance a Success To the Editor: I wish to take this opportun ity to express the sincere ap preciation of myself and the members of Medford Post No. 15 of the American Legion for the splendid cooperation rendered by your good paper and all those who assisted in making our dance, given in honor of Medford's soldier boys an un qualified success. It was this unified effort on the part of everyone which made it possible to not only show our soldier guests a good time but to realize a net profit of $162.78. This amount was turned over, in full, to Capt. McBee for the company welfare fund and will no doubt be appreciated by the boys when they return to camp. Again, we thank you. E. W. Winkle.
