(IP) German bankers, pursuing the financial conquest of Europe In the wake and sometimes in ad vance of the nazl armies, have begun buying out French and Belgian holdings in Turkey. For money they apparently are using funds extracted from the occupied countries. The present operations in Tur key, as described by a compe tent source, are only a small part of the campaign which be gan with the German occupation of Paris, where the writer learn ed some of the details. Ferret Out Sources Using both financial and po litical pressure, the Germans are ferreting out the vast network of French investments in Eu rope to supply their increasing demands for foreign exchange. Although French and Belgian investments in Turkey are com paratively small, Germany needs their credits In Turkey to pay for her increased purchases here. A score of German bank ers arrived in a group a few weeks ago. Germany gets 400,000,000 francs daily from France under the armistice agreement to pay costs of the German occupation. But since the actual cost is re ported to be much less than that, a surplus is left over with which . to buy out French holdings in France and abroad. (The franc has a nominal value of about 2.3 cents.) Lillard announced today that he had signed Pete Belcastro, the Mad Italian from Weed, to face Londos in the one-hour main event. Chick will clash with McEwen, and Ernie Piluso will face George Wagner in the opening event. SOLDIERS PARADE ON ARRIVAL FOR THREE-DAY VISIT (Continued irutn nf On.) that aside from a little sickness normally to be expected, the men of his command were all in fine health and spirits. Thomas E. Rilca, commanding the 82nd brigade which includes the . 186th and 162nd Infantry. With the boys in camp, the stage was cleared for the dance to be given in their honor by Medford post of the American Legion at Oriental Gardens at 9 p.m. tomorrow. In order to give the boys the best possible welcome, the pot invites the public to attend the dance and urges a large attendance. All wo men will be admitted without charge and E. W. Winkle, post commander, said he was expect ing a lot of Medford's pretty girls to be on hand. Any net pro ceeds will be given to the wel fare fund of Companv A and headquarters company, Mr. Win kle said. CAPT. BEAN TALKS AT KI1NIS MEET Capt. Theron W. Bean, in structing quartermaster of the proposed army cantonment, was the guest speaker at the regu lar luncheon-meeting of the Kl wanis club in Hotel Medford Monday noon. He told of the progress being made in develop ing preliminary plans for the camp and explained some of the changes that would occur in the community if such a can tonment is located here. Capt. UP) Sacramento, with a team batting average of .298 led the Pacific coast baseball league in games played through Sunday, while -loya (Babe) Herman of Holly wood topped the individual bat ters with .308. San Francisco was second to Sacramento with .291. Although Blakely of Sacra mento had a .410 average, he piayea in only 39 games, against 70 for Herman.
