At Headquarters Duke M. Guile, itinerant mess instructor for Medford CCC district, re turned to headquarters this morning. Mr. Guile has been Instructing at Camp Sitkum and Camp China Flats during the past week. Enfoylng Best T. D. Hinkle. carpenter foreman for Medford CCC district, has been enjoying a rest at his home here this week. Alford of 517 West 10th street applied for a permit to remodel at a stated cost of $500. Tii New Camp Joe G. Van Amburgh, educational adviser, will depart Sunday from Med ford CCC district headquarters, for Camp Harrison Gulch, Knob, Calif., where he will report for duty. Mr. Amburgh was former ly the adviser at Camp Alkali Lake, which was disbanded re cently. Deferred A radiogram order received yesterday from head quarters of the ninth corps area deferred the disbandment of Company 3442, Camp Hart Mountain, from July 7 to July 10 in order to allow the tech nical service of the camp more time to complete unfinished work projects. Many Fractures There were four cases of fractured hips at the Community hospital at the same time. In addition to this unusually large number of pa tients receiving treatment for fractured hips, the hospital rec ord today also showed three oth er cases of bad fractures in the hospital at the same time, bring ing the total of fractured bone cases to seven. He was among a group of selectees leaving here recent ly. Court Citations James T. Boyland, 59, of 122 North Cen tral avenue was cited by state police yesterday to appear in justice of the peace court this afternoon charged with failure to yield right-of-way. Marion Peter Vogel. 24. of 112 East Main street and Robert G. Mur ray, 20. of Central Point both were cited to appear this after noon on charges of driving cars without an operator's license. Travel Speeded New govern ment travel regulations require1 that army air corps officer per sonnel use air transportation wherever possible to speed the, national .defense program. Max C. Henne, manager of United Air Lines announced today. In some cases military planes will be used and in other cases com mercial airlines will be used in the new speeded-up program, Mr. Henne said. m m m On Leave Harley Hall, son of Mrs. Grace Hall of Jackson ville, is at home on a ten-day leave after completing a course of study at the naval radio school in San Diego, Cal. Upon his return to San Diego, he is to be assigned to duty on des troyer. Harley and his brother Frank Hall enlisted through the navy's recruiting station here last December. Frank is attend ing the naval electrical school in San Diego. Job Tests The U. S. civil ser vice commission today announc ed open competitive examina tions for the following positions: junior and senior stenographer and typist (for men only) for em ployment in Oregon, Washing ton, Montana and Idaho; inspec tors (various grades) of ship con struction and of engineering ma terials, navy department; senior and Junior blueprint operator, various departments and agenc ies; and patternmaker, Puget Sound navy yard. It was an nounced today by Frank 3. Van Dyke, civilian coordinator. The survey, he said, was arranged through the cooperation of Theo dore J. Norby, school superin tendent. Plans for the survey quickly followed the Ashland city coun cil's vote Tuesday night to co operate financially with Med ford. the county court and the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce in planning for the proposed cantonment. The coun cil voted an appropriation of $100 a month, this to continue as long as "the returns Justify." It was stipulated that a complete housing survey of Ashland be included. Mayor T. S. Wiley was chosen as Ashland's representative on the civilian cantonment coordin ation board. C. Brazil of Eugene, district manager of the Bonneville pow er administration, called today on Capt. Theron W. Bean, con structing quartermaster, and Harold I. Wood, associate en gineer on cantonment planning. Mr. Brazil, returning to Eu gene from Klamath Falls, said his call was only "casual." Turn ing inquiries away from his visit here, he stated that Bonneville headquarters had received nu merous requests from various parts of Oregon lor presentation of its educational motion pic tures on hydro-electric power. Motoring here from her ranch Miss Rogers was accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Leila Rog ers and Dennis Morgan, screen star. The three have been spend ing several days at the Rogers ranch and plan to return south shortly. Dressed in a simply tailored Jumper outfit, and with her features largely concealed by big sun glasses. Miss Rogers was evidently hopeful of avoid ing publicity as she shopped in the Medford business district. However she affably gave her autograph to those who request ed her signature, a small crowd gathering at her station wagon as news of her presence spread rapidly. Morgan played opposite Miss Rogers in "Kitty Foyle" the screen production that won the 1940 Academy award for her. Miss Rogers, who said she was tired and in a hurry, refused to be interviewed but employes of one business place where the party called earlier, quoted her mother as declaring Ginger thought "things looked fine" at her ranch. Both are at tached to company M, 17th Uni ted states infantry, a heavy weapons unit. The boys received their com missions through ROTC work at tha university.
