Society by Betty Visits At Cousin's Home A visitor In the valley the past week has been Miss Carol Fries of Washington, D. C, who has been the guest of her cousin, Mrs. Helen Dixon, 526 West 10th street. Miss Fries is the daughter of Major General and Mrs. Amos A. Fries, former Med ford residents, and has spent the past winter at Eugene where she was a Junior in the arts depart ment at the university. Before returning to Washington she will aitend Girl Scout camp at Canby, Ore., where she will act in an advisory capacity. Return South By Mainlintr Mrs. Henry J. Mondot and son, Michael, left yesterday morning by United Mainliner for their home in San Francisco. Michael has been spending the past three months with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Q. D'Albini, 45 Quince street. Mrs. Mondot has been at the D'Albini home for the past month. The ceremony was read at the St. Ann's Catholic church before 20 friends and relatives. Rev. Franz J. Feinler read the ceremony. The- bride was at tended by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Richard Sakraida as matron of honor. The bridegroom's twin brother, Lynn Stone, was best man. A reception followed and the couple left for a wedding trip to the coast. Mrs. Stone is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Sakraida of Provolt and Mr. Stone the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elery Stone of Provolt. Music Week Report Success Mrs. Lois Young, Medford chairman for National Music week held here in May, has re ceived acknowledgment of her report of National Music week observance in Medford and vici nity from C. M. Tremainc, New York City, national chairman of music week. Mr. Tremaine said "We were especially Interested in the news articles showing the wide and enthusiastic participation in the observance. We also were very glad to see the editorials so in keeping with the spirit and alms of Music week. . . Your scrap book was nicely arranged and the clippings well marked so that we can easily give Medford proper credit in our permanent record. We are pleased to note, too, that the inter-American phase of the observance was mentioned in the Music Week bulletin to the schools and was well treated editorially." MEDFORD L FINDS LOCAL BOYS IN FT. By Corp. Paul W, Hughes Fort Ord, Calif., June 18 (Special Correspondence) The 41st Provisional Company Is now stationed here. We left King City last week and are at tached to the 58th Quartermast er Regiment. On the first day here I found George Cox, one of Medford's trainees in this company. George has been in the army four months and likes it fine. Also met another Medford boy, Jack Canfield, here. He was in ducted in Seattle and is with the 202nd Signal company. We are now living in bar racks and stationed Just a few blocks from the ocean where there Is plenty of fishing and swimming. Nearby towns have plenty of entertainment for us all. Had a big show here last Sun day, sponsored by the studios in Hollywood. A long list of stars participated, including Carol Landis, Claudette Colbert, Mar lene Dietrich, Dick Powell, Joan Blondell, the Ritz brothers, George Burns, Grade Allen. Jack Benny, Mary Livingston, Rochester, George Jessel and scores of others. We still don't know when, if ever, we will return to Fort Lewis. Jo seph Knotts, pastor of the First Methodist church of Medford, to be pastor of Leslie church In Salem, was announced yester day. He returned last night from the annual conference at Eugene. Rev. Knotts will appear in the local pulpit next Sunday for the last time before going 10 his new pastorate. Announcement of the appoint ment revealed that Rev. Knotts had made an enviable record since coming to Medford eight years ago. Several years prior to his arrival the local church pro perty had been sold to satisfy a heavy mortgage which the con gregation was unable to carry on account of the depression. After nine months of negotia tion the property was bought back on very reasonable terms, the congregation again took heart and with determination and optimism, the membership steadily increased and the Med ford church is now the leading one of the Cascade district. During Rev. Knotts' pastorate he has received 408 members. Active membership of the church at the present time is 758, not including the non-resident and inactive membership. Nine years ago the church gave a little less than $200 for benevolent causes. Giving have steadily increased until this year they were nearly $1400. t The Rev. L. C. Kirby, who nas oeen appointee to the Med ford pastorate, has been residing in Pendleton for the past three years. Rev. Knotts plans to leave next Monday for Salem and it is expected that the Rev.
