PAGE SEVEN LOCAL and Llghu Stolen Harry Borde of Santa Monica, Cal., reported to city police that two fof lights and chrome bracket were stolen from hit car when it was parked in a local hotel parking lot last night. Return Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Clancy returned to Medford last night from Seattle, Wash., where they spent two weeks visiting their son-in-law and daughter. Ma, and Mrs. H. M. Dagg. They made the- trip by motorcar. On Visit V. V. Harpham. sup ervisor of the Umpqua national forest In Roseburg, who motored here today for a conference, was accompanied by his three daugh ters, who continued to Ashland to visit friends. Aids Camp End Gilbert M. Oddie, assistant Medford CCC district educational adviser, left yesterday for Camp Applegate where he will remain until Sat urday to assist in the disband ment of the camp. Invited Public Installation of new officers of DeMolay will be held at 7:30 tonight on the third floor of the Masonic temple. Masons and DeMolay members are Invited to attend the initia tion of eight candidates into the order following the public serv ice. Out On Bail W. R. Muckey. S3, of Medford, was released from city jail this morning on payment of $10 bail on a charge of drunkenness. Walter T. Shea, 55, and Jack Meagher. 60, also charged with drunkenness, were to appear upon the return to his duties of Judge Allen D. Curry, who was confined to his home with a slight illness. To Remodel The north wall of the old city hall at Front and Sixth streets will be remodeled to conform to the show-window arrangement In front, Fred W. Scheffel, city superintendent an nounced today. Bids will be called for in a week or 10 days, he said. Plans are being made by Clark & Keeney, architects. Mr. Scheffel estimated the Im provement at $300 to $400. Rain Interferes Medford Girl Scout council members in charge of the day camp on Bear creek announced today that "Story Book Day" for Brownies and other girls participating in the camp would be held next Wed nesday from 10 to 3, as rain in terfered with plans for the acti vity today. Mc Clellan applied at the city build ing inspector's office yesterday for a permit to construct a dry cleaning building at a stated cost of $300. Daughter Born Word was re ceived here today of the birth of an eight-pound daughter yester day to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stin- son in Chicago. Mr. Stinron is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stinson, 339 Taylor street. Clothing Stolen Noble Vin cent of 315 King street told city police yesterday that a quantity of women's underwear, two table cloths and several napkins were stolen from his residence while he and Mrs. Vincent were away from the house for several days recently. The underwear was taken from a dresser drawer and one table cloth was lace and the other was yellow plaid, he re ported to police. To Army Company Com mander John A. Jordan of Camp Williams Creek returned yester day from an extended leave at his home in Everett, Wash. Mr. Jordan's leave was shortened by a call received by his subaltern, James R. Roberts, to report to his local selective service board at Alamo, Tenn., for induction into the army on June 23. Sub altern Roberts will depart this evening. Roberts was formerly an enrollee at Camp Hart moun tain near Lake view. He was ap pointed subaltern last April 5 as a result of outstanding work as an enrollee. He is a gradu ate of the subaltern training school here. FORESTRY CHIEF An appeal for public coopera tion in safeguarding the forests against fire was voiced by Karl Janouch, supervisor of Rogue River national forest, at a meet ing of Medford Rotary club Tues day. Supervisor Janouch re minds that most man-caused fires are preventable. Importance of fire prevention In the forests as a national de fense measure was stressed by the speaker. "Never toss away a wooden match which you've lighted In the woods without breaking It In two with your fingers or a paper match with out twisting it," Janouch ad vised. Modern scientific methods of combating forest conflagrations were described by Supervisor Janouch who was introduced by H. L. Brown, Rotary program chairman. Nearly half the states in the United States operate airplanes in connection with some gov ernmental function. Interment will taku place In Siskiyou Memorial cemetery with graveside services by the Masonic lodge, of which Mr. Valentine was a long-time mem ber. There will be a Knight's templar escort from the funeral parlor to the cemetery. Active pall-bearers, all close friends of Mr. Valentine, will be George Field. A. K. Morse, Glen L. Fabrick, E. C. Mr. Valentine, who for 15 years owned and operated cafes here until he sold Valentine's six months ago, passed away while he and his wife, Erma were visiting in Portland. He had recently purchased the Spouting Horn hotel at Deoot Bay, and was resting following an especially busy week-end over Decoration day. His death came as a shock to his many friends here. Mr. Valentine is survived by his wife, Erma: his mother, Mrs. J. R. Lemon of Cottage Grove; a daughter by a former mar riage, Mrs. Don Brown of Med ford; one sister, Mrs. C. S.
