TouVelle will crown tha queen of the derby at 2 o'clock, following which the kiltie band of the Ashland American Legion will play sev eral numbers. Attorney George M. Roberts will give a patriotic address at 2:30, and from 3 to 4 a large number of prizes, donated by local merchants, will be awarded for events to be announced later. At 4 o'clock sharp the derby will officially end, and the cat fish caught by the competitors will be weighed, measured and Judged and the winners an nounced. The fish may be caught anywhere and any time between 1:30 and 4, but they must be landed before the latter hour, officials have pointed out Prizes will be given for the largest catch by a three-man team, the largest fish and the longest fish. Judges of the derby will be F. L. TouVelle, Frank Perl, Ken neth Anthony, Mayor H. S. Deuel, Sheriff Syd I. Brown, Robert W. Ruhl, George M. Rob erts and Charles C. Furnas. Ralph Koozer, manager of the Bagley Canning company, stated today that his company Is pay ing five cents a pound for royal Anne, Bing and Lambert cher ries, the price his company has paid from the beginning of the season. He added that no change In the price was contemplated. The cannery is still receiving cherries and barrelling Is pro ceeding at the plant. Mr. Koozer said that confusion had resulted from a Mall Tribune story Monday that the price was around five cents for Bings, with royal Annas at six cents. Rain thus far has done no serious damage to the cherry crop, so far as his receipts indi cate, Mr. Koozer said. FORMER CASHIER GETS 2 YEARS, $19,000 FNE Portland, June 18. (IP) Fed eral Judge James A. Fee sen tenced Cyril C. Llndley, 43, con fessed embezzler, to two years in a federal penitentiary and fined him $19,000 yesterday. U. S. Attorney Carl C. Don- augh said the .former assistant cashier of the Hood River branch of the First National Bank of Portland took amounts totaling $14,000. Collins point ed out that application for per. mite would have to be made to the chief and Mr. Elliott replied that he would not issue any but he Indicated his fear that none theless such storage might be . done without his consent, Emergency Action It was explained that the ordi nance was prepared because the existing one governing fire crackers had been accidentally omitted in the recent correlation of all the city's ordinances. Be cause of the lack of an existing ordinance on the matter, an emergency was declared so that the new ordinance became effec tive upon adoption. Reporting for the land apprai sal committee, Harold Frye, chairman, recommended sale of the following city-owned lits: Lot 22, block 2, Kenwood ad dition, to E. R. Davis for the ap praised price of $175, the lot being on West Palm street near Columbus avenue; lot 5, consoli dated No. 2, to Hobart M. Price for $300, the lot being on Port land avenue; lots 6 and 7, block 2, Palm addition, to J. V. Mc- Gowan for $600, the lota being on Palm street a block west of Oakdale avenue; and lot 1, block 2, amended plat of Euclid Park addition, to John W. McCabe for $300, the lot being on Hill crest road. The council approved the sales. Three Lots Rented Three lots on North Riverside avenue were rented at $15 a year each to Foster tc Kleiser for signboards, it being stipulat ed that the signs could be re moved at any time and the agreement cancelled upon ten days' notice from the city. From a list certified by the city civil service' commission, the council employed H. V. Martin as a hoseman in the fire department to replace Vernon Woods who recently re-enlisted In the navy. Martin, highest on the civil service list, has been a volunteer fireman for some time. On recommendation of the airport committee, the council sanctioned the purchase of 20 acres of land at the airport from Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Ivie for $3,623. The land is needed in the general airport expansion now under way, Mr. Collins, commit tee chairman explained. 387 Planes Use Port In May 387 planes used the municipal airport, it was shown In report submitted by Thomas A. Culbertson, Jr., airport super lntendent, and read by Mr. Col lins. The planes were classified as follows: 207 United Air Lines, 133 U. S. army and 27 private. Councilman Frank J.
