(Spl) Thousands of soldiers In this vicinity for maneuvers Jammed King City last week for the annual rodeo. Among Medford boys now In the service who enjoyed the rodeo were Jack K. James, for mer Company A sergeant, now member of the 209th military police and driver for Col. Glass, commander of the 209th, and Jlmmle Nelson, also in the mill tary police company at Camp Roberts. Considerable talk has been going around here regarding cantonment at Medford and the possibility of Medford's Com' pany A being stationed there. Another topic In camp Is the possibility that the troops will receive a furlough at the end of maneuvers here. This strictly unofficial as yet but the men of Company A would en Joy another few days at home before the proposed maneuvers start near Fort Lewis, The 2nd battalion of the 15th infantry was sent from here to the North American Aviation plant at Inglvwood when the troops took it over because of the strike. A shortage ot water for troops on the Hunter Liggett reservation has caused some concern. Convoys of trucks op erate between King City and the reservation carrying ample supply of water for the army. WOOD CONVICTED VAR 10 INCREASE RAVEL AT E GAIN THIS YEAR Washington. D. C. (P) Ameri cans will travel America this summer as they never nave traveled it before. That's the report from national parks and monuments, where early figures point to an increase ot 10 to 20 per cent in number of visitors over the record-breaking totals of 1940. The upward swing In 1940 was attributed primarily to the war, which practically put an end to vacation travel abroad. The same war is influencing va cation plans again this year, not only by cutting Americans on from foreign tourist attractions but also by stimulating a de fense effort which has boomed employment and brought In creased Incomes. Uncle Sam, at the more than 165 national parks and monu ments he maintains, entertained 16.741.835 visitors in 1940. The five most popular parks in 1940 and attendance figures: Shenan doah, Virginia, 950,807; Great Smoky, Tennessee-North Caro lina, 860,960; Rocky Mountain, Colorado, 627.847; Yosemlte California, 867.081; Yellowstone, Wyoming-Montana-Idaho, 526,- 252. Most popular national monu ment was Fort McHenry, Mary land, 515,823. The Statue ot Liberty, was second, with 395,' 633. Smallest national park at tendance was at Mt. McKinley, Alaska, where 1,201 visitors were registered. Only 35 per sons went to Mount of the Holy Cross national monument In Colorado. TO LEARN NEW RULES Salem, June IB.
