"Sign of the Wolf"
Has Two Dog Stars
In Leading Roles
Two outstanding dog stars of
Hollywood have leading roles in
the punch-packed Jack London
story, "Sign of the Wolf," play
ing today and Monday at the
Rialto theatre. Both dogs are
descendants of the famous
Strongheart.
Based on the popular author's
That Spot," the film Is a story
of the fox fur industry of the
Canadian wilds. Two prize
winning Alsatian shepherds are
loosed in the backwoods when
the plane carrying their mistress
and her colored servant crashes
in a raging blizzard. One of
the dogs. Smoky, deserts the
stricken plane, and roams the
woods until he is taken by a
pair of renegade trappers, who
train him to rob valuable pelts
from nearby fur farms. The
other dog. Shadow, although in
jured, hobbles for miles to the
cabin of Michael Whalen and
young Darryl Hickman to obtain
relief for his stricken mistress
and her servant Grace Bradley
and Mantan Moreland.
Whalen revives the girl and a
romance soon develops between
the two, which is threatened
with destruction when Shadow
is accused of a series of fur
thefts actually committed by
Smoky under the direction of
the renegades.
The story rushes toward a
climax in typical Jack London
fashion, with several ' unusual
twists contributing to the novel
ending.
