Wlnkia wss elected commander of Medford Post No. 15 of the American Legion at the annual election meeting held at the armory last night. Prior to the balloting, the withdrawal of Ray Wright, candidate for commander, and Dr. Charles Kunz as first vice commander. were accepted by the post. Other results of the election were: First vice commander. Ray E. Wright; second vice com' mander, Virgil Ballantyne; ad jutant, Fritz Nissen; chaplain, Alfred J. Anderson; executive committee, R. R. Ebel, Joseph Fliegel, Earl York, James Col lins and Elmer Wilson; delegates to state convention, E. W. Win kle, Fritz Nissen, R. R. Ebel, Joseph Fliegel and Lloyd Wil liamson; alternates. Earl York, J. Edward Russell, Frank Kurtz, Elbert Lenox and Virgil Ballan tyne. A report on the Beaver Boys state to be held at Oregon State college June 22-29' was made by Chairman Ebel who advised that Medford Post will be repre sented by 27 boys, greatest num ber ever sent from Medford, and said to be the best showing made by any Legion post in the state this year. Commander Williamson re ported on the local Disaster Pre paredness company and stated that the next mobilization would provide plenty of interest and action. It is planned to give each platoon a problem to work out during the evening on an emergency basis, these problems to cover transportation, supply shelter, communication, utility service, first aid, etc. A report on the Curtis cam paign, currently sponsored by the Legion, was made by Horace Bromley who stated that the plan is making good progress and it Is hoped that Medfostt Post will realize a substantial profit to apply on the local com munity service activities. Robert Ebel announced that Legion Junior baseball was un der way and that the first turn out was held the first of the week under direction of Coach Riney Cook. Main feature of the evening's program was an informal talk on army cantonments by Mayor H. S. Deuel who covered his re cent trip to California where he visited number of army camps ' in company with other local civic leaders tor the purpose of studying the effects on civilian life In cities adjacent to these cantonments. Mayor Deuel, who la a past-commander of Medford Post, told his comrades many interesting details of the prob lems which have confronted other communities In this re gard. Following the meeting re freshments were served by the members of the auxiliary. Ernest W. Winkle (above) Is the new commander of Medford American Legion Post. Daniel Welch Wilson, 30. and his brother, Clovls Leo Wilson. 31, wanted in Stockton, Cal., on felony warrants charging for gery, were in custody here today following their arrest last night by city police. The former was in city Jail and the latter In county lockup. The elder Wilson was quoted ; by city police as refusing to waive extradition, and Sheriff Martin Ansbro of San Joaquin county has been notified. The specific charge agr.inst the two brothers was not known, as both 1 have declined to talk, police said. ; Police said that machinery un doubtedly would be put in mo tion to have them extradited, 1 as a circular from Sheriff Ansbro indicated that both were badly wanted in Stockton. The cir cular, which led to their arrest, slated that "both were equally guilty" and that San Joaquin county would extradite. Daniel Welch Wilson was ar rested in a local service station where he was waiting for his automobile, a 1939 Ford, to be : serviced. With him was May nard Charles Cody, 81, who had not registered for the selective service draft and who told police he had been in the Los Angeles county Jail from October 1. 1940 to May 28. 1941, serving part of a sentence for being involved in the circulation of petitions to recall Gov. Olson of California Cody was released this morning after being taken to selectivt service draft headquarters tc register. He told police he had been paroled to come to Oregon, and that he had a Job thinning fruit here. Clovls Leo Wilson was arrest ed in a South Front street room ing house after his brother and Cody had been picked up. The two Wilsons told police they had been here since May 20. and had recently obtained fruit-thin ning Jobs. Pennies Buy Bonds Guymon, Okla.
