He was en route by motor to Talent where he will visit. From Virginia Arriving by train today were Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Mickley of Danville, Va who will visit their son. Lieut. W. B. Mickley at CCC Camp jw- Gasquct for two weeks. Visit Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Short. 622 West Second street, returned home Monday from Salem where they visited their daughter. Patricia, for sev eral days. While in Salem Mrs. Short renewed acquaintance with friends whom she had not seen for 25 years. They were accompanied by Mrs. Short's mother, Mrs. C. E. Young. To Portland Mrs. Diamond Flynn. 907 West l!)th street, and Mrs. Warren Liggett, 812 New town street, left today by motor for Portland by way of Diamond lake. They will be joined in Portland by Mrs. Flynn's daugh ters, Dorothy and Jacklyn. stu dents at Oregon State college. All will return to Medford Sun day. Pictures Shown R. H. Mc- Ayeal, district representative of the American Tobacco company, showed sound motion pictures depicting the buying of tobacco and the manufacture of cigar ettes at last night's regular weekly dinner-meeting of the Active club in Hotel Medford. George Smith was a guest at the meeting, presided over by Royal Clare, president. Elec tion of officers will take place at next Tuesday night's meeting. Going South Linus B. Mar tin, accompanied by his wife and daughter, Marearet. arrived here today from CCC Camp Steam boat, Idyleld Park, where Mr. Martin is company commander. He will be commander of the CCC train departing tomorrow for Vicksburg. Miss. Mrs. Mar tin and daughter are also re turning south to New Augusta, ' Miss., by train tomorrow, fol lowing Mr. Martin's departure. M.s. Chevront, educational adviser of company 6452, Camp Prescott. will leave June 13 for an ex tended vacation. While on leave he will visit friends at Lenore. Ida. Mr. Chevront will return to duty July 6. Flying South Lieut. O. J. Mosman stopped at Medford municipal airport this noon to have his army North American observation plane refueled. He was en route from Fort Lewis. Wash., to Watsonville, Cal. Visit Judge Mr. and Mrs. Roy Painter and son, Gerald of Twin Falls. Ida., spent several hours last Friday visiting City Judge Allen D. Curry at his home, 505 Benson street. Mr. and Mrs. Painter, who were en route home from a trip to California, are old school mates of Judge Curry. Mr. Painter is cashier of the Fidelity National bank In Twin Falls. Returns Home E. B. Price returned here today by train after spending several days in San Francisco. Mr. Price, an employe of the California Ore gon Power company, resides at 1006 Sunset avenue. Donald Price of Portland is spending the week with his parents. He visited in Los Angeles, Holly wood and San Francisco last week and returned to Medford to spend the remainder of his vacation with his parents and friends. At Headquarters Arrivals at Medford CCC headquarters yes terday included William B. Mick ley, company commander at Camp Gasquet, and Langdon A. Livingston, company commander at Camp Oregon Caves. Both were in on business connected with the CCC casual train move ments. Also In town on train convoy movements were Sub alterns Fred W. Jenkins of Camp Mt. Shasta and Max L. Piper of Camp Wimer. They departed last night for Louisiana. Home on Leave Home on a 30-day furlough today was Glenn J. Reed, son of Mrs. Grace Reed. 840 Palm street. Reed arrived by train yesterday from Wilson, N. C. where he is serving with the U. S. 30th engineers. He has a rating of private first class and specialist first class. A graduate of Medford high school. Reed enlisted with the 29th engi neers at Portland about three years ago and transferred to the 30th when that unit was formed for duty in the south a couple of years ago. Before going to Wilson, Reed was stationed at Camp Blanning, Fla., for a time. At the end of his furlough he will report back for duty at Wilson. Albert Jackson has re turned to his home in California after visiting with his mother. Mrs. Einkopf. who was reported today to be slightly improved. Grass Fire The fire depart ment's chemical crew was called at 12:48 p. m. to put out a grass blaze at the Mabel Ray resi dence. 1104 West Main street. Some one in the neighborhood let a rubbish fire get away from him and spread to the dry grass. Chief Roy Elliott said. No dam age was done. This morning at 8:37 the chemical crew stood by while a chimney fire at the Hotel Jackson burned itself out. There was no damage. - . Knocked Out Dee Mills, fore man of the Applegate CCC camp, was knocked unconscious for a few minutes but was otherwise uninjured when the government pickup he was driving collided with a machine operated by Dave Rees of 305 Edwards street at McAndrews road and West Jack son boulevard about 8 a. m. to day, according to a report on file. Both cars suffered some damage. Machines driven by Leslie E. Libby of 246 South Riverside avenue and Mrs. Karl Kuld of Prospect were involved in a minor mishap on South Cen tral avenue near Main street Tuesday noon, according to a re port on file today. Has New Position Adolph Crenkner. radio operator of the Medford CCC district since Feb ruary, assumed similar duties in the Fresno CCC district head quarters yesterday. His first message by chance was to the station. WUBG in Medford, that he had just left the day previ ously. Mr. Czenkner was form erly a CCC enrollee at Camp McKinley and more recently a civilian instructor at the Camp Wimer radio school. Carl Sco ville. who replaces Czenkner as radio operator here, is a Med ford resident, having been em ployed by the Verl G. Walker Radio Engineering and Supply company. . Plane Passengers Arriving today on the noon United Main liner were W. H. Volck and A. J. Flebut, from Oakland. Cal.. and V. M. Pinkley, from Sacra mento, Cal. Departing on the same plane were Paul Morris, to Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. William Hammett and A. J. Klocken. to Portland. F. T. Rosenberg ar rived from Portlana on the fore noon plane and leaving were H W. Lundy, to Los Angeles, and Mrs. R. R. Chaffee, to Oakland. V. Stewart arrived from Port land on the midnight plane and L. D. Tilton and H. S. Mcrriam departed for San Francisco. Pas sengers on the evening flngstop Mainliner yesterday were J. B. Stam and Paul Morris, from Portland. J. M. Fulkerson left on the same plane for San Fran cisco. S. Y. Armit arrived from Oakland yesterday afternoon and C. L. Millikin departed for Port land on the same plane. Meeting Tomorrow The junior committee of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce today issued a reminder of the meeting it will hold in council chambers at city hall at 7:30 p. m. tomorrow regarding prepara tions for catering to tourists this season. Progress made to date by the local Defense Preparedness com pany has been most encouraging according to reports made by various members of the general staff at a dinner meeting Mon- i day evening. Commander Lloyd William son of tile American Legion pre sided and reviewed briefly the accomplishments of the locul de fense unit, said to be one of the most active in the state. Plans for further development were discussed and it was decided to hold another mobilization when each platoon will be given a tac tical problem to be worked out on an emergency basis.
