'LOVE' ENTERS SCENE ! IN FORMICA TIFF, Philadelphia, June 11. JP Tommy Forte will be fighting for "love" as well as the world's bantamweight title when he tan gles with champion Lou Salica in 15-rounder at Shiba Park tomorrow night. Forte is to be married to his neighborhood sweetheart, Mil dred Cangelosi, on July 12, and he intends to march to the altar as the new champion. "I don't want to disappoint her again," remarked the 22-year-old scrapper from South Philadelphia, referring to the 15 round decision he lost to Salica in their first title bout last January. Andrews of San Francisco was festive with tall white tapers and flowers in pastel shades as Miss Elsie M. Brown of Medford became the bride of Frank C. Grove of Redding. Cat., in a Memorial afternoon ceremony. Carrying a bouquet of bouvar dia and gardenias with white satin streamers the bride wore white Chantilly lace over ivory taffeta and was attended by her sister, Mrs. Andrews. The mat- ron-of-honor was gowned in Sierra blue silk Jersey and car ried coral tuberos and begonias in her hand. Best man was Frank J. And- rews with the Rev. John Hayes Creighton of the First Presby , terian church of San Francisco ' presiding at the nuptials. I An out-of-town guest was Miss Joan Andrews, niece of the i bride, who flew from Oregon to i be present at the wedding. Fol- lowing the ceremony a formal i dinner party was held at the Venetian Villa. The newlyweds left immedi ately afterwards for Portland and will reside in Medford. San Francisco Chronicle. News of the betrothal was told at a dinner held at the Nel son home Sunday at 1 o'clock, the occasion also celebrating the birthday of Mr. Nelson. The wedding will be an event of October 26. Harding, 828 Dakota street. y BEDFORD MAIL nd Clubs Shoemaker Georgia Paris Weds James Heaton Owen In QuietjOeremony Georgia Fay Paris and James Heaton Owen were married to day at a quiet ceremony at the home of the latter on Siskiyou Heights. The Rev. Wolford Dawes, pastor of the First Bap tist church officiated. Mrs. Paris, whose home was originally in Iowa, has been In Oregon for a number of years living in Medford the past four years. Mr. Owen came to Med ford in 1923 representing east ern timber interests. Later the Owen Oregon Lumber company was organized with Mr. Ow'en as vice president and manager. In 1935 the Owen Oregon com pany was succeeded by the Med ford Corporation of which he served as manager until 1940 when he retired. Present at the wedding were ex-Senator and Mrs. Evan Reames, Dr. and Mrs. L. D. Ins keep, Arthur E. Owen, son of the groom, Robert Dean Paris, son of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. Porter J. Neff. Talent Teacher Weds in Honolulu Interesting to friends in this vicinity is news of the marriage of Miss Edith Clark, daughter of the late Dr. R. C. Clark of the University of Oregon and Thom as Mountain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mountain of Eugene. The ceremony took place in Center Union church chapel in Honolulu, T.H., May 2. Following the service a recep tion honored the couple at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Edmondson, former Eugene residents. After a stay at Kahala beach they will be at home In their apartment at the Kameha meha high school where Mr. Mountain is a teacher. Mrs. Mountain, a graduate of the University of Oregon, was a member of the Talent school staff during the last year. Mr. Mountain is also a graduate of the university. Mrs. Bullock Will Be Speaker Among those appearing on the W. C. T. U. bi-county conven tion program at the South Meth odist church tomorrow will be Mrs. Ralph Bullock, missionary returned from Hongkong, China. Mrs. Bullock is scheduled to ad dress the members during the afternoon. Mrs. Bullock plans to have on display numerous curios from China and as an added fea ture her daughter, Miss Esther Bullock will sing several songs in Chinese. Extension Unit Meeting Postponed to June 20 Roxy Ann Extension unit meeting scheduled for Friday of this week has been postponed until Friday. June 20. TRIBUNE, MEDFORD. Missionary Talks Of Work in China At Church Meet Mrs. Ralph Bullock.- mission ary from China, spoke of her work and conditions in China at the meeting of the Adult Mis sionary society of the First Christian church recently. She displayed a number of interest ing articles from China and an appropriate opening to her talk was a Chinese song by her daughter, Miss Esther. New officers installed by Mrs. E. P. Ireland were Mrs. Julia Gregory, president; Mrs. Ethel Latham, vice president; Mrs. Oletha Olson, secretary; Mrs. Mildred Sargent, treasurer, Mrs. Mabel Carr, librarian, and Mrs. Maude House, world call secre tary. Mrs. Ethel Troxell was pro gram chairman and devotions on the theme. "The Church's One Foundation." were led by Mrs. Ruth Hood. Mrs. Lois Young sang. The president, Mrs. Gregory, responded to installa tion with a poem entitled "To day." An invitation was accepted from the Klamath Falls society to motor to Klamath Falls for a joint meeting tomorrow. A social hour in charge of Mrs. Delia Child and her committee closed the gathering. Activities The executive committee of the Jackson County Council, P.-T.A. made preliminary plans for county council activities dur ing the coming year at a 1 p.m. dessert luncheon Thursday at the home of Mrs. A. H. Puhl, county president on the old Pa cific Highway north. The committee also appointed chairmen for the various county committees and a budget com mittee for the year 1941-42. At tending the meeting were Mrs. H. H. Elhart, Ashland, Mrs. J. K. Hoey, Mrs. J. W. Johnson and the hostess. Mrs. Elhart and Mrs. Puhl planned to leave Tuesday for Portland to attend the June council meeting of P-T.A. of ficers. 4 Miss Kelly to Leave Tomorrow for California Miss Marjorie Kelly, 911 Queen Anne avenue, plans to leave tomorrow by motor for the San Francisco bay area for a visit with friends. Mankes Return From Six Weeks Tour Mr. and Mrs. Julius Manke ol the Jacksonville-Phoenix road returned Monday from a six- weeks motor tour of the East and Old South. Mrs. A. Thrun of Jackson, Miss., sister of Mr. Manke, accompanied them home for an extended visit. Also visiting at the Manke home are Mr. and Mrs. E. Mohr ing of Oakland, Cal the Manke's daughter-in-law, Mrs. Claude Manke of San Francisco, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Hurst of Oak land, Cal., their brother-in-law and sister. Claude Manke. with the U. S. navy, is expected to arrive Friday evening. Church Picnic to Bring Vacation School to Close Bringing to a close a success ful vacation church school in which 95 boys and girls are en Joying a trip to the Bible lands the past two weeks the annual church and Sunday school picnic of the First Presbyterian church will be held Friday afternoon at Jackson Hot Springs. The out ing will begin at 3 with a bas ket supper at 6:30 p. m. Cold drinks and ice cream will be furnished by the committee. Former Resident Visits At Clayton Isaac Home Mrs. Ralph Virden, former Medford resident, and residing in Seattle was house guest last week at the home of Mrs. Clay ton Isaac, 21 Portland avenue. The Virdens are well known In Medford and in aviation circles and friends will be interested to hear that Mr. Virden has accept ed a position as test pilot for the Lockheed Aircraft company at Los Angeles.
