Roy Mayion of Yakima. Washington, to Robert Yeo, son of Mr. and Mri. James A. Yeo of Ashland, June 1 at Yakima. The ceremony was read In the chapel of the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. Charles J. Ghormley at officiating clergy man. Only a small group of re latives and friends were present. The bride wore a blue and white redingote with whit ac cessories and corsage of gar denias and pink roses. She was attended by her sister-in-law, Mri. Carl Witt, as matron of honor. Best man was C. 8. But chart, brother-in-law of the bride. A wedding breakfast was served following the ceremony and the couple left for a wed ding trip to Seaside, Oregon. They are making their home in Ashland for the summer. Mrs. Yeo, a graduate of Uni versity of Oregon where she was affiliated with Alpha Chi Omega sorority and a member of Gamma Alpha Chi, national advertising honorary, was art teacher in Medford High school during the past school year. Mr. Yeo Is graduated from Wil lamette university and affiliated with Alpha Psl Delta fraternity. He teaches social science In the Grants Pass schools. Shower Honors Shirley Gibson At Scripter Home Honored with a miscellaneous shower at the E. D. Scripter home, 60 Rose avenue Friday evening was Miss Shirley Gib son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Gibson, bride-elect of James Stewart of this city. Mrs. Scripter Invited a group of friends to the bridal shower and the evening was spent visit ing and In games. Miss Gibson received a number of gifts. Later refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by her daughter, Miss Ann Scripter. Miss Dippel To Visit In East Miss Patricia Dippel, daugh ter of Dr. and Mrs. S. R. Dtp pel, 214 Stark street, left Fri day noon by plane for Portland from where she departed by train for an extended visit at Reottsbluff. Nebr., with her aunt Mrs. L. B. Murphy. From Scottsbluff she will visit In Omaha, Nebr., and in El Paso. Texas, returning to Medford by way of Los Angeles where she will be a guest at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Larry Gredlnger. Miss Dippel expects to return home in August. Local Residents Leaving Today for Wendell, Idaho Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lantz and children, Carroll and Kenneth, 730 Alder street, are leaving to day by motor for Wendell, Ida ho, where they will visit relatives. Weston of the Lower River road at Grants Pans and Joseph A. Burroughs, son of Mrs. M. J. Burroughs of this city. Attending the couple were Miss Ruth Terry as maid of hon or and Edward Buhn as best man. Following an informal reception the couple left on their wedding trip to Salem where Mrs. Bur roughs was matron of honor at a wedding of a school friend. Continuing to British Columbia and other Canadian points they will be at home, June 10 at 102 A street in Grants Pass. Mr. and Mrs. Burroughs are em ployed at the California Oregon Power company In Grants Pnss. Mrs. M. J. Burroughs, mother of the bridegroom and his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. Burroughs, all of Medford attended the ceremony. Local Residents Go To Los Angeles Leaving Saturday for Los An geles were Miss Florence Bous sum, George Hunt and Jack Mat lack, all of Medford, who will attend the convention of the In dependent Motion Picture Own ers of the Pacific coast. During their week's stay In Los Angeles they will enjoy a trip through the Hollywood mo tion picture studios and will meet numerous cinema stars. Bringing the convention to a close will be a party at Earl Carroll's theater featuring special stage entertainment and In addition, appearance on the stage of Hollywood celebrities. They motored to California with Mr. and Mrs. Dick Phair. planning to return to Medford Saturday of this week. Dinner Honors New Residents Mr. and Mrs. A. S. V. " t Junior Auxiliary Enjoys Outing At Hot Springs Junior auxiliary members of the American Legion enjoyed a swimming party at Jackson Hot Springs Wednesday afternoon and evening. The outing con cluded the auxiliary activities until September. Swimming was followed by a picnic supper. In attendance were Jeanne Smith, Natalie Parker, Carmen Wright, Neysa Wall, Mary Jo Plymale, Beverly Leach, Adrienne Leach, Patricia Collier, Barbara Collier, Suzanne Collier and June Nissen, mem bers; Mrs. D. ' Miss Foster Reports On Atlantic States Miss Mabel Foster presented an Interesting map study of the Central Atlantic states telling of historic spots and buildings at the Travel Study club meeting Monday at the home of Mrs. Farl Moore. The speaker was Introduced by Mrs. Dwight Houghton, pro gram chairman, who also pre sented Mrs. John Gribble who read a paper on Washington, D. C, based on her recent visit to that city. Roll call and current events concluded the meeting wntcn was presided over by Mrs R. A. Brewer. W cods Are Guests Of Merrimans Mr. and Mrs. Vernon A. Woods were honored Friday evening with a dinner at Val entine's Cafe by Mr. and Mrs. Chester Merriman followed by an evening at Hurgoyne s. Mr Woods, a member of the Med ford Fire department, is leaving shortly to re-enter the U. S. navy at Bremerton. Mrs. Woods plans to remain in Medford for the time being. Honored Queen Patricia Dippel Dresided during the initiatory work. 1 Busseys Return From Extensive Tour Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Bussey and five-year-old son Gordon, of 512 No. Bartlett street, re turned Friday from an extensive Journey through the east and old south. Leaving Medford May 12 by rail they went to Detroit and thence by auto to Niagara Falls and along the east coast to New York and Wash ington, D. C. After sight-seeing in the national capital they con tinued to Florida, visited rela tives of Mr. Bussey in Georgia and then started west by way of Texas. On the western portion of their enjoyable trip the Busseys visited Carlsbad Caverns, in New Mexico, the Grand Canyon, Salt Lake City and Yellowstone Na tional park. Club Meets At Knips Home Mrs. Gil Knips entertained members of her pinochle club Wednesday evening at her home, 413 Arcadia court. High score was held by Mrs. Oliver Hughes with Mrs. Luke Lange scoring low. Refreshments were served to Mrs. Franklin George, Mrs. Harland Wiley, Mrs. Bill Knips. Mrs. Oliver Hughes, Mrs. Mel Younger, Mrs. Wendel Spence, and Mrs. Luke Lange by the hostess. Portlander Visiting At Home of Son Mrs. Harry B. Rees of Port land is visiting at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. David H. Rees, 316 Crater Lake avenue. She will remain here for an extend ed visit. H '1 J'fii Formal Ball Honors Retiring Jobs' Daughter Queen The Queen's ball, honoring the outgoing queen of the Daughters of Job bethel, Miss Patricia Dip pel, was one of the outstanding social affairs enjoyed by mem bers of Medford's younger set; during the last week. The affair was attended by 85 couple Thursday evening at the Masonic hall. The hall was decorated in a garden motif with white lattice trellises, fences and gates be decked with roses, summer blooms and greenery. During the evening Miss Dippel was pre sented her Past Queen's Jewel by the newly-elected queen of the bethel, Miss Carol Tengwald. Clusters of balloons about the hall added to the festive air, forming a gay setting for the formal affair. Punch was served during the evening by Miss Georgiana Holloway and Miss Madeline Heath. Patrons and patronesses for the evening included Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Sanderson, Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Dippel, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tengwald. Mr. and Mrs. William Brooks. Dinner Meeting Reports on the recent Busi ness and Professional Women's club convention in Portland were heard Thursday evening at the dinner meeting of the Med ford B.P.W. at the Hotel Med ford. Taking part in the review of convention activities were Mrs. Gladys York, Miss Nina Moore, Mrs. Eva Judd and Mrs. J. W. Grigsby. During the meeting Miss Lois Firestone, recent graduate from the Southern Oregon College of Education, played several violin selections accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Frances Paige. The annual cash award and pin presented to the outstand ing senior girl in the commer cial department at the high school was given to Miss Jean Woolridge. Included In require ments for selection of the out standing senior girl is scholar ship. A talk on Mexico was given by Mrs. Wilna Kincaid who also displayed numerous items from that country. Installation of new officers wiU be held at Rogue River lodge Sunday, June 22. Lecturer Is Guest At Carpenter Home Brynjolf Bjorset, Norwegian lecturer who appeared In Med ford Wednesday evening as speaker at the Medford High school under auspices of the Jackson County League of Wom en Voters was guest at the Leon ard Carpenter home, Veritas Orchards, during his stay In Medfor,d. Also visiting at the Carpen ter home was Mr. BJorset's i cousin, George Bjorset of Cot Itage Grove who drove to Med ford to meet the lecturer. Mann-Cameron Wedding Held At Baker, May 24 Miss Cathryn Virginia Mann, daughter of Mrs. J. R. Hampton of Medford, was married to Ross Mervin Cameron, son of Archi bald Cameron of Spokane in a ceremony held at the Methodist parsonage in Baker May 24. The service was read by the Rev. T. S. Croot at B p. m. with the bride attended by her moth er, Mrs. Hampton and Mr. Hamp ton acting as best man. She chose a navy blue cape ensemble with white and blue accessories and a corsage of white orchids. Mrs. Hampton wore a blue and white redin gote with blue and white acces sories. Following the service the couple left for Lake Tahoe and will make their home at Mc- Dermott, Nev., for a short time where Mr. Cameron Is employed, later moving to Seaside, Ore., for the remainder of the sum mer. Mrs. Cameron Is well-known In this city where she has been employed for the past three years as office secretary for Dr. C. I. Drummond. Mr. Cameron is an engineer in road construc tion work. Santo, 620 South Ivy street to Arlis L. Cowan of this city, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Cowan of Harrison, Arkansas, was solomenized May 31 at 8 o'clock at the First Methodist church. The bride, given In marriage by her father, wore a light blue taffetta gown with a finger tip veil and carried an arm bouquet of roses. Mrs. Loree Llnd, sister of the bride, was matron of honor with Mrs. Marjorie Bringle and Miss Wanda Fae Cassman as bridesmaids. Her attendants wore floorlength gowns of pastel colors with tiny floral hats of sweet peas and corsages of matching flowers. Frank Close was best man. The service was read by the Rev. Joseph Knotts in the pres ence of relatives and close friends. A reception, honoring the wedding party, followed at the home of the bride s sister. Mrs. Lind. The service table was centered with a two-tiered wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom, which was cut by the bride. Lighted tapers were arranged on either side of the centerpiece. Among out-of-town guests at tending the ceremony were Mrs. J. H. Doupe of Ilwaco, Washing ton, grandmother of the bride: Mrs. M. E. Santo and Mrs. Loree Rldgeway, both of Palo Alto, California, the latter formerly of Medford; Mrs. Marjorie Bringle of Phoenix; Miss Wanda Fae Cassman of Central Point, and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Werner of Ashland, former Medford rest dents.. Upon their return from a short wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Cowan will make their home at 913 West Fourth street. Medford Guests Return To San Francisco Dr. and Mrs. J. T. Ray who were house guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Ray, in this city, returned to their home in San Francisco the latter part of the week. During their stay the visitors enjoyed a trip to Crater Lake and points of in- terest In the valley, fishing In the Rogue river, Elk creek and the Applegate. Dr. Ray Is a brother of Mr. Ray and with his wife has visited in Medford on several occasions. Hubbard has been appointed Medford chair man for Alpha Chi Omega lun cheon in Portland on June 14. The luncheon, an annual state wide affair will be held at Ire lands at Oswego at 1:30 and a record attendance of Alpha Chi Omegas, both active and alum nae, is expected. Unusual and amusing experi ences In magazine writing will be recounted by Mrs. William M. Rush, an Alpha Chi from University of Washington, who writes for magazines and has collaborated with her husband on several recent novels. Local Girl Accepts Position in Stat Office Miss Patricia Short, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Short, 622 West Second street, has ac cepted a position in the office of Secretary of State Earl Snell, beginning June 9. Miss Short has just completed her sopho more year at Willamette uni versity where she is planning to major In library science. She will return to Medford later in the summer to spend a short va cation with her parents before resuming her studies at the uni versity In September.
