Hogan was elected to serve as president of the Med ford Musical society for the coming year, at picnic dinner and business meeting held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Porter J. Neff on Berkeley Way Mon day evening. The affair mark ed the close of the 1940-41 sea son for the society until the fall months. During her term of office Mrs. Hogan will be assisted by Mrs. J. C. Boyle as vice-president; Mrs. Royal Clare as secretary, and Mrs. Frank Reum, treas urer. Dr. R. P. Mortensen showed motion pictures taken on re cent trip through Mexico and South America and the woman's chorus, directed by Mrs. C. H. Paske and accompanied by Mrs. Rawles Moore, sang four three- part selections. Members of the chorus are Miss Marguerite Luman, Mes- damet John Day. M. Hogan, T, H. Reum, C. O. Larlson, Clare Russell, J. P. Wallace, Richard Payne, Cora Guatin, E. Gore, M E. Sands and Douglass Welch, with Harvey Moore as pianist nd Mrs. C. H. Paske as director, The group also listened to the radio address of the President. The Medford Musical society, organised for the purpose of bringing outside concert artists to Medford and for the promo tion of Interest In music In the community, la open to all inter ested In the alms of the society. During the pest year, under the leadership of the retiring presi dent, Mrs. A. O. Bauman, the group presented two concerts. one by Bernard Abramowltach, pianist from San Francisco, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Char lea I.emery, and a duo recital by Elizabeth and Harlow Mills, violinist and pianist from Pasa dena, Cal. Dean Theo. Kratz of the Uni versity of Oregon was also guest of the club and gave an Informal lecture. Illustrated at the piano, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. J C. Hayes. The spring concert at the high school during Na tional Music week was under the direction of J. Cyril Sander. The group also enjoyed a Christ mas party at the Charles Lem- ery home and an Informal pro gram of violin and piano music at the home of Dr. and Mrs. L. L. Sanders when Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whltsel. recently of Los Angeles, were guests of the so ciety. The woman's chorus, organiz ed late In the spring, will re sume practice early In the fall under direction of Mrs. Paske and Mr. Moore as accompanist All members Interested In choral work are urged to join the . group. I It was announced that Bob Brewer, high school trombone ! player, received the award as the outstanding music student ; at the high school. Of Interest to friends and rela tives In Medford and vicinity Is announcement of the marriage of Miss Zelna Marion Maris, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Maris of Smith River, Cal., to Lieut. Robert C. Minear, son of Mrs. Jessie Minear of this city. Immediate relatives and friends were present for the ring ceremony, read at the home of the bride's parents Friday even ing. May 23. The rooms were arranged with white delphin iums and roses and lighted tapers. The bride chose a floor length gown of white chiffon and wore a corsage of Cecil Bruner roses and iris. ' A reception followed and the service table was centered with the three-tier wedding cake which was cut by the bride. The guests were sealed about the dining room at small tables which were centered with light ed candles and small bouquets of summer flowers. Over 100 guests called during the recep tion. Mra. Minear graduated from Crescent City high school and has completed her junior year in home economics at Oregon State college. She attended the University of California for a year and is affiliated with Alpha Delta PI social sorority. Lieut. Minear will bo graduat ed from Oregon State college with the senior class this year and received his commission In the R.O.T.C. as lieutenant in the engineers' division. He Is a member of Tau Beta PI and Sigma Tau, both national engi neering honorarlea; Scabbard and Blade, national military honorary, and la affiliated with the Society of Military Engi neers and the Society of Auto motive Engineers. He served as major In the R.O.T.C. engi neers during his senior year. Lieut, and Mrs. Minear plan to leave soon for Fort Belvoir. Va.. where he will enter an army officers' training school. Later they expect to return to Fort Lewis where he will be assign ed to work in the engineers' di vision. Mrs. Minear and son, Donald Minear, both of this city, attend, ed the wedding in Smith River McBee-Barrow Rites To Be Read Today The marriage ceremony of Miss Ethelyn McBee. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. McBee of 206 Cottage street and Albert Barrow., son of Mr. and Mrs Ray Barrow, 540 Edward street will be read this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the First Christ ian church. The bride will be given in marriafre by her father with the Rev. R. W. Coieman reading the service. The bride will wear a white snaaowea noor-icngm organdie gown with a finger tip veil and a halo of orange blos soms. She will carry an arm bouquet of spring flowers. Miss McBee has chosen as her maid of honor Miss Mabel Win ningham of this city, who will wear a floor length dress of tur quoise blue net and carry a bouquet of spring flowers. Best man will be Dale Howard. A reception will follow at the Barrow home honoring the wed ding party. Assisting about the rooms will be Miss Inez Morn ingstar and Miss Barbara Brewer. Following the reception they will leave for Corvallis by the coast route where Mr. Barrow will complete his year's study at Oregon State college and re turn to Medford to make their home. Mrs. Barrow was a mem ber of the graduating class at Medford Senior high school Thursday evening. Phoebe Dean Tells of Betrothal To Dr. Staples . Announcement was made Thursday at the Alpha Delta Pi sorority house on the Uni versity of Oregon campus in Eugene of the engagement of Miss Phoebe Dean, daughter of Dr. and Mra. George B. Dean of Jacksonville Star route, Med ford, to Dr. Lloyd Staples of Eugene. The news was told at a dinner party at the sorority house. The marriage will be an event of early July. Miss Dean, a graduate of Med ford high school, will be gradu ated from University of Oregon with the class of 141. She is a member of Alpha Delta Pi social sorority. Dr. Staples. geologist for Horseheaven and Cordero Min ing company, is a graduate of Columbia university, a member of Phi Beta Kappa national scholastic honorary and affiliat ed with Sigma XI. He received his doctor's degree from Stan ford and is chairman of the Ore gon section of the American In stitute of Mining Engineers. Hopper of this city. were quietly married rriaay morning at 10 o'clock at St Mark's Episcopal church. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a tailored white suit and an orchid cor sage. She was attended Dy miss Evelyn Yunger, of Dallas, w. O. Hammond of Salem was best man. The aingle ring ceremony was read by the Rev. Herald Gardner, rector of St. Marks. A wedding breakfast follow ed at the Hotel Holland honor ing the wedding party with members of the families In at tendance. Mr. and Mrs. Hopper will make their home here. Mrs. Hopper Is a niece of Dr. and Mrs. B. R. Elliott of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Wes Elliott motored to Medford Wednesday to attend the wedding of their daughter and were overnight houseguests at the Elliott farm. Janet Ross Pledged To Kwama Miss Janet Ross, daughter of S. L. Ross of Grants Pass and niece of Mr. and Mrs. Clatous McCredie, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Chllders and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Chiidcrs, all of this city, has been pledged to Kwama, sopho more honorary on the University of Oregon campus. Grandparents Attend Commencement Exercises Mr. and Mrs. Michael O'Shea returned to Longview, Wash., by motor yesterday afternoon after attending the commence ment exercises of their grand son. The wedding cake was cut by the bride. Out-of-town guests attending the wedding included Mr. and Mrs. James Schackellord ot Portland, son and daughter-in-law of the bride; Mrs. Johnson of near Medford and Mrs. Bur. nell of Jacksonville. They will make their home In Central Point where Mr. Jones plans to build a new home. Prior to taking up residence In Ore gon, Mr. Jones made his home i. r.. Ano.W and Mrs. Jones is a former resident of Wert J Virginia. Ji Local Residents Are Dinner Guests At Carrillo Home Mrs. Hazel Roberts and daugh ter Rosalie. Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Steward and Miss Joan Stoehr, all of this city, motored to Grants Pass Wednesday evening where they were guests at the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carrillo on the Rogue river. Entertaining at the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Carrillo and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Straley, also of Grants Pass. The even ing was spent visiting. The Carrillos. recently return ed from New York, left Satur day for Santa Monica, Cal where they will be guests at the home of Mr. Carrlllo's broth er, Leo Carrillo of Hollywood, In Santa Monica canyon. They were married in Fargo, N. D., June 1, 1891. A family dinner has been planned in observance of their 50th anniversay, with their chil dren. Vera S. Murdock of Los Angeles, Cal., and their son, w H. Roberts of North Bend, Ore. present for the occasion. The Roberts have made their home in this city since 1923 Mr. Roberts, familiarly known as "Dad" Roberts, Is engaged in real estate.
