PARE ELEVEN LOCAL and Duggan Hr Joe Duggan of San Francisco arrived here this morning by train to spend sev eral days transacting business and visiting Jens Jensen at his home, 418 Park avenue. Allen Arrives W. W. Allen. well-known former Medfordite. arrived here on this morning's train to spend several days. This marks Mr. Allen's first visit to Medford in two years. Driver Tests Prospective op erators of motor vehicles will be examined here as usual Sat urday from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. A state examiner will be in council chambers on the top . floor of city hall and applicants are asked to report to him. Visiting Here Mr. and Mrs. Kelton Strader and small daugh ter, Karen Lee, of Portland ar rived by motorcar last night to spend two weeks visiting Mrs. Strader's parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Slead of 702 Beekman ttreet. Mr. and Mrs. Strader. former Medford residents, are well known here. From Eugene Mr. and Mrs. Carl G. Washburne of Eugene f m ere overnight guests at the Hotel Medford. They were en route home by motorcar after making a trip to Crater lake over the new Willamette high way. Mr. Washburne, who op erated the well-known Wash burne department store in Eu gene until he sold out a short time ago, was formerly a mem ber of the state highway com mission. Fined $10 Ernest N. Olson of Jacksonville, charged by city police with violation of the basic traffic rule on West Main street, was fined $10 in city court to day by Judge Allen D. Curry. Sydney L. McCutcheon, Medford ' taxi driver, was cited to appear In city court this afternoon charged with violation of the basic rule on West Main street. Both were driving at excessive speed, police stated. Plan Passengers Louis Amacher left for Portland by Mainliner this noon. Arrivals 1 from Portland on- the forenoon Mainliner were V. E. Rolfe. Mrs G C. Woody, C. L. Woody and M. A. Corn. E. T. Thompson left on the same plane for San Francisco. T. W. Parry arrived from Boise, Idaho, last evening and David Holmes left on the same plane for San Francisco. S. S. Brundage and H. Fryer departed for Portland yesterday afternoon. To Remodel The Jackson Investment company applied at the city building inspector's of fice yesterday for a permit to remodel the Sparta building. Riverside .avenue and Main ttreet. at a stated cost of $750. The Nichols estate applied for a permit to reshingle a residence at 703 Ve3t Main street at a stated cost of $75. A- Sharp of 146 South Holly street and Mrs. Nettie Grover of 718 Welch street applied for permits to re shingle their residences at stat ed costs of $50. Ann Rutherford has the young romance angle of the story with Lee Bowman, who plays Custer's young lieutenant. Paul Kelly enacts Custer, made up to dupli cate this historic figure. Toothache Remedy Bad For Stomach Shreveport. La., Sept. 19. JP) A 27-year-old negro is ill in Charity hospital, a victim of his own "toothache remedy." When an aching tooth persist ently pained him, he filled his mouth with kerosene and re solved to keep it there until the pain ceased. After an hour he fell asleep and swallowed the kerosene. Paderewski Given Travel Permission Lausanne, Switzerland, Sept. 19 UP) Ignace Paderewski. pianist and one-time premier of Poland, has obtained permission to cross unoccupied France and Spain on his way to the United States.
