(P) Nor man Thomas, socialist presiden tial nominee, left here today for San Francisco after warning in an address last night that fas cism "can happen here." He told the nominating con vention of the socialist party of Oregon that "we're on our way to fascism, and when Ameriv-a moves we move fast." The convention obtained more than the 2S0 signatures neces sary to place Thomas and Mny nard Krucger, socialist v'ce presidential candidate, on the Oregon ballot as independent candidates. He told Interviewsr earlier that there Is "growing feeling that President Roosevelt, if re elected, will resign soon after he takes office and make Henry A. Wallace president." "If this impression gets around that the President is going to resign in order to break an other national precedent it will defeat Roosevelt," he predicted. BERGDOLL LOSES IN LIBERTY MOVE New York. Sept. 17- (fl-) Federal Judge John C. Knox to day dismissed a writ of habeas corpus obtained on behalf of Grover Cleveland Bergdoll, World War draft dodger, and ruled that Bergdoll must serve the full five-year sentence Im posed in 1B20 by an army court martial, and In addition a two. year sentence Imposed in 1919 for his flight to Germany, Judge Knox upheld the gov ernment's contention that at the time Bergdoll was courtmar tialcd as an army deserter, a state of war existed between the United States and Germany. "Notwithstanding the fact that at the time of sentence, hostili ties between the United States and Germany had long ceased he said, "a state of war between the two countries still con tinued."
