Adviser Loses Life On Eve of Election Greenlcaf, Wig., Sept. 16. (JP Dr. Glenn Frank, 52, Re publican political adviser, edu cator, and author, was killed In an automobile accident last right on the election eve of his first campaign for public office. His son, Glenn Frank, Jr., 21, newspaper reporter, was fa tally injured and a publicity aide suffered minor injuries. Dr. Frank, chairman of the Republican party' policy com mittee, was seeking the U. S. senatorial nomination in tomor row's Wisconsin primary elec tion. Smashup On Curve Enroute from one political gathering to another. Frank's automobile failed to round, a curve at a road intersection, crashed into a sand pile, and overturned. Dr- Frank was killed instant ly. His son died on the way to a hospital at Green Bay. Theodore Stumpf, 23, of Wau kanee. a member of Frank's campaign publicity staff, was burned by acid let loose by the automobile's campaign sound equipment. Suffering from shock. Stumpf could give only a meager ac count of the accident. Had Attended Picnic Dr. Frank had attended a political picnic at Stoughton during the afternoon and was on his way to a Green Bay ho tel for dinner with Republican leaders when the accident oc curred. The organization is' composed of postmasters of Jackson and Josephine counties! and the meeting was the second' of its kind since the postmasters organized. I The dinner, which preceded ( the business meeting, was served i by members of the Rebekahi lodge, in the dining room of the I. O. O. F. hall. Postmaster C. M. Massie of Grants Pass, state president of the Oregon Chapter of the National Association of Postmasters acted as toastmaster for the occasion. Responses were made by Frank DeSouza. Medford, John H. Fuller. Ashland, and Lillian Moorhead, Graves Creek. Others present were Mrs. Mary Grieves and her daughter-in-law of Pros pect, Mrs. C. M. Massie, Grants Pass. Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Gil more. Murphy, Mrs. Tame. Tal ent. Frank Heath, Rogue River and Mrs. H. D. Force, Gold Hill. Next meeting will be held early in December, the place to be de cided upon later. Members of the Gold Hill ac cordion band and Miss Jerry Parkhurst and Delmar Chapman contributed music and singing during the dinner. ROOSEVELT TALK, TRIP COST. EYED campaign expenditures imposed by the Hatch act. Washington, Sept. 16. iT) Members of the senate cam paign campaign investigating committee decided today to study President Roosevelt's La bor Day speeches before pass ing on a Republican contention that the speeches were "politi cal" and involved expenses sub ject to the Hatch act. A complaint was filed with the committee by Rep. Joseph W. Martin, Jr., chairman of the Republican national committee. Martin asked the committee to find out who paid the ex penses for the presidential train and to determine whether these costs should come within the $3,000,000 limit on presidential Salem. Sept. 16. IJI Loss in the fire last night which des troyed the Salem Navigation company's warehouse was placed today at $229,000 by company officials. It was fully insured. About 1.500 tons of paper, valued at $225,000 and con signed by the Oregon Pulp and Paper co., of Salem to all parts of the world was destroyed. Firemen were unable to de termine cause of the blaze, but the company management said it probably was started by tran sients who have been sleeping in the building. SORE THROAT CANCELS TIBBETT OPERA TOUR New York. Sept. 16. (P Lawrence Tibbett, noted Metro politan opera baritone, must not sing for four months because of a state of high tension in the muscles of his larynx. As a result, his manager an nounced last night. Tibbett has been forced to cancel his en tire fall concert and opera tour. Pacific City, Ore.. Sept. 16.-. The body of Edsel Tabor, 19. of Salem was recovered by trailers a mile at sea yesterday.
