SOCIETY AND CLUB NEWS OF THE WEEK By CLAJtA MART DAVIS Miss Haskins Wed To Mr. Risse In Impressive Service At the horn of her parent, Mr. and Mrs. Leon B. Haskins. Wednesday momin at 11 o'clock. Mis Gertrude Haskins became the bride of Charles t. Risse, son of Mr- Anna G. RUM, with the Rev. T. H. Temple, re tired Methodist minister of Tal ent, officiating. The bride wore an afternoon dress of pale grey crepe with chirred bodice and full skirt, and a corsace of gardenias and pink rosebuds. Her father gave her in marriage. Miss Dorothea Haskins wasi her sister's bridesmaid. She wore a winterberry colored crepe afternoon frock trimmed in cut velvet and a corsage of pink rosebuds. Fred Under wood acted as best man for Mr. Risse. Vows were exchanged in front of the fireplace, which was bank ed with baskets of white and peach-colored gladiolus. Ivy draped the mantel. Mrs. George S- Johnson of Berkeley, Cal., the bride's aunt, played "I Love You Truly" prior to the ceremony. She also play ed Lohengrin and Mendelssohn wedding marches. Mrs. Ha skins chose a silk dress of dusty rose hue with white trim and a corsage of Talisman rosebuds for her daughter's wedding. The bride groom's mother wore a prairie rose crepe dress trimmed in braid and a corsage of Talisman rosebuds. A reception followed the im pressive ceremony, after which the couple left for southern Call' fornia for a two weeks wedding trip. For a going away en semble, the bride wore a dark blue sheer fashioned princess with a tight fitting military style jacket and black accessories. Girl Scouts to Organize Chorus A new project in Girl Scout- mg this year will be Girl Scout chorus. Each troon m.v elect two representatives to at tend weekly rehearsals, which will be held Saturday morninu at 10 o'clock In Scout head quarters, scouts attending should hava true voices and be willing to participate in civic programs. Girl Scouts from each unit at camp are planning on giving 'Camp Talks ", and singing scout songs for civic organizations which gave Camp Ship to local Girl Scouts this year. Study CfobWill Meet Wednesday The first fall meeting of the Wednesday Study club will be held at the Hotel Medford, Wed nesday, for a no-host luncheon at 1 o'clock. Valley Couple Wed Recently In Vancouver The marriage of Miss Virginia Ricks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ricks, to Richard Von der Hellen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Von der Hellen. prominent valley residents, was revealed hers yesterday. The ceremony took place in Vancouver, Wash-, on Septem ber 7. For the present time th young couple are making their home with th bride groom's parents In th Antelope district. Th bride attended th Cen tral Point schools and last year was chosen th outstanding girl from Jackson county in th Pa cific International 4-H meeting in Portland. Mr. Von der Hellen attended th Medford high school. She is the daughter of Mrs. Bernic Hub bard. On Thursday evening, Mrs. C J. H., arrived in Medford yesterday morning by train to spend about ten days visiting her sister. Mrs. E. M. Campbell at th Campbell home in Holly Court. The visitor lived in this city many years ago. S. members gathered at the Ma sonic temple at Central Point Tuesday evening for the first fall meeting of Nevita chapter No. S3. Men's Night was the theme of the evening with the men of the chapter having com plete charge of all arrangements including program and refresh ments. Hensley and Haskill Holt en tertained with a short skit en titled 'Too Busy." Merritt Swing gave a negro character reading in costume. Later in the evening Mr. Swing sang several songs accompanied by Mrs. Sam Koehier. Committee in charge included: Itansley Holt, chairman: assisted : by Merritt Swine and L. C. I Scott. Part of tne chaDt(,r mMtine Wa, devoted to a memorial ser- vice for Alice E. Hanley. The worthy matron opened the ser vice with Rudyard Kipling's poem "When Earth's Last Pic ture Is Painted." Later Bertha Bursell gave a brief history of Sister Hanleys' life and a beau tiful tribute to her memory. This memorial service was marked for its stately beauty and orig inality. A double closs, built especially for the occasion, cov ered with' fern, was placed on the white altar cloth. While the organist played hymns and with appropriate scripture, each offi cer, dressed in long white dresses, placed three white ast ers in the double edge of the cross, so that when completed the cross was beautifully out lined in white. As each officer placed her flowers she took a position in the Star Labyrinth to form a cross and, with heads bowed, this lovely picture was held while Ed Vincent sang "The Old Rugged Cross." Chapter rooms were beauti fully decorated with fall blos soms by Clara Vincent. Reames Chapter Enjoys Meeting Reames chapter No. 66. O. E. S. met Thursday evening for its first meeting of the fall season. A large attendance of visitors and members of the chapter en joyed the pleasant evening's en tertainment. Mrs. Harry Prentices' accordi on band consisting of eight members, and two readings by Mrs. Lulu Saulsberry of Jack sonville were enjoyed. Follow ing the entertainment refresh ments were served in the dining room by several members of the non-affiliate club of Reames chapter. Next meeting will be Septem ber 28 and will be social night. Lady Activlans To Meet Soon Lady Activians will convene Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Paul Meyers, for dessert and bridge.
