SEPTEMBER 6. 1940. r f P tl v b f It d o PAGE FOURTEEN' MANY STUDENTS ML RECEIVE ASSISTANCE FROM NYA THIS YEAR More than 300,000 lecondary school student! are belnr; en abled to return to school this month as a result of part-time Jobs provided by the National Youth Administration. It was announced today by NYA Ad ministrator Aubrey Williams. In a press release received by Earl T. Rice, NYA district supervisor here. During the entire school year now starting more than 430,000 different secondary school stu dents will be given part-time work for wages which mean the difference between being able to continue their education and dropping out of school. School authorities in each community will be responsible for the selection of the students to be employed and for the establishment of suitable types of work activities. Students are selected on the basis of proved need and demon strated scholastic ability and earn between $3 and $6 a month. During the last school year the students employed by the Na tional Youth Administration came from families having aver age annual incomes of $557. Special Meeting At Central Point Church Tonight Central Point, Sept. (Spl.) A special meeting will be held tonight at the Federated church by the newly forced board for promotion of the Lake o' the Woods conference. The confer ence had an enrollment of 80 this year, and double that enroll ment is expected In the coming year. Tonight's Meeting Is to plan rallies for the fall and further organize the new board. The board includes the following: Rev. J. R. Turnbull, Ashland; Rev. Clarence Orr, Klamath Falls; Rev. Wolford A. Dawes, Medford; Rev. Lamkln, Murphy; Rev. Joe Bowdoin, Rogue River; Mrs. Frances Smith, Butte Falls; Miss Ruby Webster, Central Point; A- W. Ayres, Central Point and Rev. C. R. Luther, Central Point. DE WIOLAYS MEET AT GRANTS PASS DeMolay district conclave will be held in Grants Pass tomor row and Sunday for the purpose of bringing together chapters that comprise the southern group. Chapters expected to be rep resented are Roseburg, Klamath Falls, Medford, Tule Lake and the host chapter, Grants Pass. The following program will be held Saturday: Registration, dates and housing, 3 p. m.; ban quet, 6:30 p. m., in DeMolay hall; sport dance, 9 p. m , Arti san hall. On Sunday the DeMolay de gree will be conferred by the Grants Pass chapter. A busi ness meeting will follow. It is expected that about ten members from the local chapter will at tend. IRK SOUGHT FOR L Medford senior high school Is sued a call today for applica tions from persons who would like to employ girl students for household work in return for room and board. Applications will be received also for other kinds of work for both boy and girl students, It was stated. Persons having work to offer the studrnts were asked to telephone the high school, 4870. The hluh school will open Monday for the new year. COLLEGE ENROLLMENT TO EXCEED LAST YEAR Portland. Sept. 6. fP Dr, Frank Ballard, Oregon Slate col lege president, predicted the school's 1940 enrollment would equal or exceed the 3,000-plus average of lat year. He ad dressed alumni and students, at the OSC picnic at Jantzen Beach park yesterday.
