PAGE FIVE Society nd Clubs By Clara Mary Davis Mrs. McClure to Arrive Saturday For Visit Here Expected to arrive here to morrow morning by train is Mrs. Robert L. McClure of Chi cago, to spend two weeks visit ing her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Frazer Brown at their home on West Eleventh street. Mrs. McClure is the former Miss Emily Brown, her marriage boing an event in the Medford Presbyterian church two years ago. This will mark her first trip home since that time. After her stay here. Mrs. Mc Clure will accompany her par ents to Tuscon, Arizona by mo torcar and spend several days there before continuing on home to Chicago. The Browns plan to winter in Tuscon. Mrs- McClure will be a guest at the wedding tomorrow after noon of Miss Frederica Brom mer and Ralph Klein. She and the bride-elect are friends of long standing. She is traveling to Medford via the northern route and will come here from Portland. Mrs. Divine Home From California Mrs. Sherman L. Divine re turned to her home here last evening from Sacramento, Cal., where she spent six weeks visiting. Smalls Arrive to Attend Saturday Wedding in City Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Small and two children. Mary Kather ine and Jerome arrived in Med ford this morning by train from their home in Portland to attend the marriage of Miss Frederica Brommer and Ralph Klein to morrow afternoon. Mrs. Small is Miss Brommer's sister. She will be her matron of honor at the ceremony. Last evening the bride-elect was feted at a shower party ' the home of the D. Ford McCor mick's on the Rogue river when the Misses Clarita and Frances McCormick and their sister, Mrs. Guy Stoddard entertained. Guests were members and for mer members of regular bridge club. Others present were Mesdames Charles W. Barnes, Harvey Rob ertson, Charles Clay, Ji'., Robert Emmens, Otto J. Frohnmayer and the Misses Jarvie and Patri cia Thompson and Marian Moore. Miss Brommer received a number of lovely gifts and bridge was enjoyed throughout the evening. She formerly be longed to the club prior to mov ing to Portland several years ago. Mr. Klein, the prospective bridegroom, arrived here last evening by plane and is staying at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Klein. Rasmussens to Visit in City Spending the Labor Day holi day in Medford are Mr. and Mrs. George Rasmussen of Salem. The couple are house guests of Mrs- Rasmussen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George M. Roberts at their home on Crown Hill. They expect to visit here until Tues day at which time they will travel north again. Miss Burtis to Teach in Carmel The many local friends of Miss Lucille Burtis, former asso ciate professor of art at the Southern Oregon College of Education, will be interested to know that she is vacationing in Carmel-by-the-Sea. after a sum mer spent at Davis and attend ing summer school in Berkeley. She is a member of the Car mel Art association and has made several interesting block prints for the Carmel Guild of Craftsmen. Miss Burtis will be teacher of art in the new Carmel high school and supervisor of art I work in Sunset school. In Ber keley, Miss Burtis has been studying painting under Ray Boynton and design with Lu cretia Nelson. Pease Hosts for Large Gathering Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pease enter tained officers and members of the Canton and auxiliary of I.O.O.F. recently at their sum mer home on Rogue river near Prospect. Thirty guests were seated on the porch overlooking the river and mountains and enjoyed an afternoon dinner. Later cards and games were played. Mr. Pease is captain of the canton and Mrs. Pease is presi dent of the ladies' auxiliary. Next regular meting will be an event of September 6 at the I.O.O.F. hall. 1 Couple Wed in Parsonage Here Last evening in the parsonage of the First Methodist church. Miss Margaret Ella Watson of Medford and Thomas Williams of Longmire, Wash., were united in marriage. The Rev. Joseph Knotts officiated. Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Hamilton attended the couple. The Williams will make their home in this city. Group Returns From Bay City Mrs. Charles Strang, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Holmes and daugh ter, Miss Marian returned yes terday morning by train from San Francisco, where they at-' tended the Golden Gate Interna tional exposition on Treasure Island since Monday. The Holmes reside in Spokane, Wash. Mrs. Holmes, the daugh ter of the Strangs, and Miss Marian, have been visiting at the Medford Heights home of the Strangs for some time this summer. , I Kubli Home Is j Scene of Party j Mrs. Edward Kubli and Mrs. Leon Offenbacher were joint hostesses for a recent lawn pic nic and shower party honoring Mrs. Edith Marlott and daugh ter, Vivian, who plan to leave soon for Santa Rosa, Cat., to make their home. The event, which was held at the Applegate home of Mrs. Kubli, was attended by about twenty guests. Mrs. Marlott, sis- j ter of Mrs. Offenbacher. had re cently resided in Medford- i I0NAL UNITS INCREASED The authorized strength of both Oregon national guard units here will be increased ' when mobilization orders are issued. I It had been announced prev iously that Company A, 186th 1 infantry would be increased ! from 86 to 129 men and today , First Lieut. James W. Grigsby, : commanding headquarters de tachment, said his unit would be increased from 11 to 26. Both units are now enrolling men on the inactive list pending issuance of the mobilization orders, expected about Septem ber 15. When the mobilization order is issued, the men on the inactive list will be transferred to the active list, ready to go to camp with the others. The guardsmen are to be In camp a year, the units here go ing to Fort Lewis. Officers pointed out that by enrolling in the rational guard, men can avoid being conscripted under the proposed conscription law Applicants may register for en rollment at the armory.
