Gov ernor Charles A. Sprague said today. The president said last year. when he asked governors to set the day a week earlier, that he would make a similar request In 1940. This year's Thanksgiv ing ordinarily would be Novem ber 28. Last year about half the gov ernors obeyed the president's request. Governor Sprague said a year ago there would be two Thanks giving days in November, 1940. The first, he said, would be on election day when the country would be thankful for the elec tion of a Republican president, and the second would be the tur key day. In Oregon there would be le gal holidays in three successive weeks. They will be election day on Novmber 3, armistice day on November 11, and Thanksgiving day on November 21. PICNICS SUNDAY U. S. postal employes of south ern Oregon will hold their an nual district picnic Sunday at the Union Creek campground in the Rogue River national forest. Postal employes will attend from Medford, Bend, Prineville, Klamath Falls, Grants Pass and Ashland. A special invitation has been extended to the post masters and supervisors of the district. A basket picnic dinner will be served at noon, coffee and ice cream to be provided by the clerks and carriers of the Med ford office. Games of various kinds will be enjoyed and a soft- ball game will be a feature. All postal employes and their families are invited.
